About this listen

They have returned. Now the galaxy will burn.

An ancient foe lurks in the shadows...licking its wounds and assembling its forces.

Risen from the ashes and shrouded in darkness, these ancient beings are waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike back and set the universe on fire.

After their world is ambushed in a devastating onslaught, the Star Alliance is nearly wiped out in one fell swoop. Hotheaded pilot Chase Athanatos leads the barely surviving fleet to the far edge of space and a small backwater planet.

A little-known world called Earth.

In doing so, the Alliance unwittingly puts Earth in the crosshairs of an intergalactic, eons-old conflict between ancient foes and god-like creatures known as the Olympians.

Chase’s people must join forces with the citizens of modern-day Earth if they hope to survive the resurgence of an enemy once thought extinct.

When it becomes clear that his Fury powers are awakening, Chase must face his inner demons and learn to control them, or he could very well destroy the universe he has sworn to protect.

If he doesn’t succeed, then the galaxy will fall into darkness.

Forever.

Suspend Your Common Sense

If you have nothing better to do and need to waste 33 hours on a long drive or flight and you are willing to suspend all common sense and belief, this might work for you. On the plus side, the characterization is good. Lot's of interesting characters show up and are pretty well developed. On the negative side, the plot is beyond believable and the author has no grasp of simple things like air (or space) traffic control, restricted airspaces, and hundreds of other modern restrictions that would make many of the actions impossible. The author also resorts to "magic" to solve plot problems, which is a no-no for a serious piece of fiction. Finally, this series is more of Perils of Pauline than a well-planned plot. Every ending is a cliff=hangar with no ultimate resolution. It gets tiring. The fight scenes also are unrealistic, and writing as a 3d degree black belt, I could tell that the author does not have a lot of martial arts training. Again, "magic" solves the plot contradictions. I doubt that I will purchase anymore from this series unless I am in serious need of a long, distracting listen with no real substance.

Green

As I listened through this series my overwhelming thought was the writing was very green. It ticks all the boxes of a good story line and characters are developed but it's kind of wooden and lacks nuances a more experienced writer would employ. I do think with more experience this writer could be great. The narration was a little inconsistent and lacked diversity, I had trouble with some character's dialog because they all sounded very similar. I don't believe I will continue this series.

a little too much...

There seemed to be a lot of underlying politics in the story. Otherwise it was entertaining.

ok

The cut and paste edits are annoying and, as protein eating fan, the vegan bent was mildly annoying. Otherwise an interesting storyline concept.

Exciting book with fast action.

The story line is great and kept me pinned to the action. I understand that authors try to make their stories realistic, but I still think that the swearing could be tamed some. Otherwise, great story!

Lost interest

I loved the first book! But the second book made me lose interest in the story all the space combat filed down to “they battled the enemy and won the end” I was greatly disappointed.

The store feels rushed

The story feels a little childish. but it was fine for background noise in the car. For some reason the narrator sounds like he's mad at the story when he reads it. like he's borderline speed reading. like if he reads it fast enough he'll get to read a better story next time.

space commies

the author presents the age old scifi trops with their flawed premises. everyone works for the greater good becuase .... human nature aparently stops being human nature? the deities cite freedom as an important gift then ignore the facr that someone will always be incharge and making decisions.
