About this listen

Step into the mysterious world of weird Florida, where surprises and spirits are as common as sun and sand….

Amelia Matthews never anticipated inheriting a hotel in in a small southern town, but life's twists and turns have led her to the Sunshine State. Under the hotel's quirky, rundown façade lie haunting secrets—an unsolved murder and a restless spirit who keeps turning off the air conditioner. In the summer. In Florida.

From the moment Amelia reluctantly walks through the door of the Crescent Moon Inn, she embarks on an unwelcome spectral adventure. Her companions on this eerie journey include the sassy feline Freddie Purrcury, the overly enthusiastic and hilarious Liz with her New Age bookstore, and the charmingly handsome local historian, Oliver.

Then Amelia discovers her hidden psychic abilities. As spooky happenings escalate, she can't help but wish for a few minutes of peace. And maybe a margarita.

She faces a decision: sell the inn, and run, or embrace her new destiny as a paranormal sleuth. In this spine-tingling cozy mystery, Amelia Matthews unravels the secrets of the inn's haunted past while navigating psychic powers, an ornery cat, and a quirky crew of new friends. If she doesn’t solve the mystery, she just might become the inn's next ghostly inhabitant….

Join Amelia in a captivating, laugh-out-loud adventure as she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth, and you'll find yourself immersed in a world where the line between the ordinary and the supernatural blurs.

a new beginning

This had it all mystery, intrigue, magic, friendship, little romance possibility and so much more. The narrator did a fabulous job. Her life was starting over, and this was one crazy way to find a new beginning. Great first book in this series and looking forward to the next one.

Fun Start to a New Series

This was an entertaining start to a new series with a quirky but likeable set of characters, a haunted hotel, and perhaps a budding romance. Amelia is a likeable woman of a certain age whose "gift" is an interesting one that is not seen often in cozy mysteries. Ms. Lush does a good job of portraying Amelia's gradual recognition and acceptance of her ability, and the paranormal in general, with a promise of more to come as she learns to utilize it. I found the mystery adequate, but I hope that now that the introductions are done, there will be a more well plotted mystery in the next book. I look forward to finding out and to spending more time with Amelia and her new found posse.

Fun listen with mix of friendship, magic, romance

I completely enjoyed listening to this book with a little mystery, a touch of magic, and fun, quirky and loveable characters. The narrator gave a fantastic performance that really brought the characters to life, so I am glad I opted to listen on audible versus reading the ebook or print book. I enjoy a light-hearted mystery with a happy ending, so I know I'll listen to the next books in the series when they are released.

Fun start to a new series

I haven't read Tara Lush's works before, but was rather curious about this series premise when I was asked to review the audio version of Eat, Pray, Hex. While I love cozy mysteries, I don't often gravitate towards ones that have a paranormal twist. But I decided to go out of my comfort zone and give this title a try and I'm glad I did.

Amelia is a likeable character who happens to find herself in a strange situation. She's inherited a hotel from an aunt she barely knew. When she goes to Florida to see the hotel and assess if it can be sold, she gets drawn into a cold case murder mystery that took place at the inn during the 1950s. The town where the hotel is located is known for embracing the mystic side of life and Amelia finds out that her own family has a history of paranormal gifts and the longer she stays in town, her own powers start to make themselves known.

The secondary characters were all so quirky and quite diverse. I loved that there was so much representation and diversity amongst the characters. it made the setting of a small Florida town even more realistic. While a lot of characters and background was thrown at me as the stage was being set for the mystery as well as the series, I didn't feel overwhelmed and was just swept along for the ride and enjoyed my time.

The mystery wasn't terribly complicated, but I found that I didn't mind. It really was just the foundation for the reader to get to know Amelia, her powers as well as the town and its inhabitants. The cold case was solved, the victim got justice and it was all wrapped up in a nice little bow. And I actually am curious to continue the series to see what happens next with Amelia and her new friends.

Anna Maste was a good narrator for Eat, Pray, Hex. Although I felt it was a little too slowly paced for my tastes. With her southern twang, it just felt a little too drawn out. But as soon as I sped up the reading speed to 1.5, I was hooked! Other than the slow pacing, Anna's performance worked for me from the accents to the emotion. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more from her in the future.

Eat, Pray, Hex was a fun time and a great start to a new mystery series. The paranormal aspects, while plentiful, aren't exactly scary, but I'd keep that in mind if that's not really your thing. But if you do enjoy a little supernatural to mix into your cozy mystery, give this one a try.

Fun read

I found this novel to be a comforting read. It has a little of everything but nothing extreme. I will look for others in the series.

The Mysterious Clues

The book was really great and fun to listen to! I enjoyed the story & I love a Happy Ending! The narrator was okay, I would’ve preferred more than one, especially since the characters in the story are both genders. Otherwise, I definitely recommend listening to this one! I’m going to follow with the next book in the series.
