Publisher's summary

Born magically talentless, Prince Corvus is an embarrassment to the royal family and is removed from succession.

However, he still has a chance to win back his throne. The next man or woman to hatch a dragon automatically becomes the ruler. Each member of the royal family is gifted with a dragon egg, but it is the work of a lifetime to hatch it.

The first time Corvus touches his dragon egg, he receives an odd notification: He has found a soulbound item and is tasked with an epic quest to hatch it...but only if he can walk the winding path of the dragon mage.

Armed with notifications, skill increases, and levels only he can see, Corvus is determined to hatch his dragon.

Enjoyed listening to this narrator as he told this story I found it hard to stop listening. I do recommend this book.

A1 performance and writing

The LitRPG stuff seems out of place at the beginning but is quickly very much appreciated and enjoyed thereafter!

A lot better than I thought it would be.

I almost didn't get this due to one of the reviews complaining about about how the main character lets a girl rule over him, and how she is the main character. In fact you can just ignore that person, they're lying. I have no clue why they would even state that. There is a strong willed old woman that fits this description, but she helps him and their interactions are brief. Overall pretty good story. I'm not a big fan of litrpg but this book doesn't do a bad job of the stats, and it's an interesting take on it.

A really great story.

I really liked this. It was decently paced enough to keep you hooked and I liked the new concepts it brought to the table. Will be picking the next one up when it comes out!

Don't count on the straight line

(As posted in Goodreads)
What a fun book! The plot path is twisty-turvey, and it has many surprises. Individual characters are constantly growing and changing, and the reader comes out with a smile as events appear to occur, overall, as they should. And the existence of "room to grow," for both the story and the characters (as well as the reader) is rife. I'm ready to go on to the next…

Great Start

I liked the story and all the supporting characters. This is a great young adult story. The MC is a young man who is quite gullable. The female characters were all stronger and more witty than the MC. The MC also has uber boys scout trope but it was not enough to make me skip ahead in the story. worth your time and credit.

YA Progression Fantasy to the extreme

it's not bad YA, there's lots to like here, but it's very YA. The basin character makes several of the dumbest decisions in the universe, but gets rewarded for them. There are very few consequences for the lead, in any real sense.

The performance could use some work though. The narrator is not great at doing female voices, to the extent that I would regularly have to go back and re-listen to female characters lines multiple times in order to figure out what they said (and that's leaving off that the voices themselves were grating to begin with).

Overall, it's a good story, and if audiobook is the way you consume books, then it's worth it. I hope they improve in future books in the series.
