Publisher's summary

A new series in the New Era Online universe from the author who brought you Life Reset!

John Slater never had any interest in video games. Now he’s got to beat one to save his brother.

A battle-hardened, ex-special forces soldier, John was never a fan of games...unlike his brother. But now, he’s got to learn and learn fast if he has any chance of saving his younger sibling. Magic, monsters and levels are new to him, and his real-world skills aren’t as useful as he thinks.

Lucky for him, he’s used to adapting on the fly. And soon, the world will know why his squadmates called him Seraph, the death angel.

Note: Events in Biomancer happen after Life Reset. However, the two plot lines are not directly connected and can be listened to independently.

Plot too simplistic

Shemer Kuznits is a very good author as I really enjoyed his Life Reset series. Unfortunately, Biomancer lacked the cohesion he had shown in the past. We have a self-acknowledged knucklehead warrior type brother, entering a immersive litRPG game to save his younger brother who ended up in a coma playing the game. The provided backstory was very loosely outlined; big brawny brother being bodyguard to younger, brighter scrawny brother. The author's decision to write the MC as a somewhat unlikable character; quick to act, unwilling to listen to other's advice, carelessly repeating mistakes that costs his and, at times, others lives, &c give little reason for a listener to put much investment in him.

There were also way too many breaks where stats are updated and blow-by-blow detailed descriptions each of battle strike consequence which mostly tended to slow the pace of the story for the sake of word-fill.

Luke Daniels, a top-tier narrator, under-performed in this book. several of the characters were difficult to understand due to either gravelly voices or badly enunciated sing-song captions.

I don't plan to follow the series.

Love that we get to go back to this world.

Luke Daniels is always a great narrator. The book was a little repetitive which messed with the pace of the story.

Cookie cutter book was a bit disappointed
Worth reading just keep your expectations at a normal level!

Not as great as His Life Reset series

The story is good but just doesn’t draw me in like his previous series did. There aren’t as many interesting characters so far but perhaps in book 2 things will pick up. The book does have plenty of gaming action.

Good story, interesting performance. Cool unique class and development.

Nice new addition to the NEO universe. Story was unique and didn’t feel like a copy of the first series. At the same time, consequences from the original series are still seen and feel authentic. It was fun having an anti-hero story rather than a predictable story of a righteous farm boy.
The narration was... interesting. Luke Daniels is both very talented and unique when voicing characters. Each character is very distinct and recognizable which is great. Some of the voices however were a bit over the top. One character in particular (The VI) was portrayed in a way i found incongruous with the wording used to describe his personality. Luke Daniels range and ability are great, I just hope for less cartoonish sounding characters.

Interesting

Interesting story, and amazing voice acting. The twist at the end I didn't see coming.

Interesting Story Twist

I really enjoyed the continuation of the new era online book series, but in a different way. This book had a really cool and interesting story twist that I appreciated. Highly recommend!
