A comprehensive 10-step guide on the aftermath of grief and loss and how best to manage your life when you feel least inclined to continue living.
In your darkest moments, when you feel most alone, isolated, and fragile - your loved one taken from you - it might feel like the pain is too much to bear. You know you can not go on like you are. Yet, thoughts of "moving on" and going back to "normal" feel dismissive and even disrespectful to the memory of your loved one.
What is there to be done then?
Grief is not something you will simply get over; it is you trying to come to terms with an unspeakable reality. That the person you love is gone. As unimaginable as it might seem, however, you will come to terms with it. Billions have in the past, and so shall you.
You will deny, you will lash out, you will be completely overwhelmed and immobilized, but sooner or later...the reality will hit you, and you will accept it. Then and there, you will find peace in the midst of your sadness.
A peace that is respectful and carries with it the memory of your loved one. One that signifies the new person you have become, for the old who has died, and the second you lost what matters most.
This book aims to provide you with the understanding and tools necessary to get you to that point in the least turbulent manner possible by delving into:
- The truth behind the five stages of grief model
- How cultural attitudes to death are affecting your grieving process
- Practical strategies for dealing with the first few weeks after a loss
- A bulletproof way to get your body on your side
- What true support looks like - and why you need it
- How to express your feelings when you can’t find the words
- How to recognize grief triggers and be prepared for them
- Strategies for coping with grief when you have children
- Tips to help you keep your loved one’s memory alive
- And much more...
Let this serve as a guiding light to help you through the darkness. A new type of peace awaits you.

But I blamed me. I don't want to be sad right now, I want to be happy for the time we have left.
And you know what? This book helped me get there.
From the very first words of this book, I could not put it down. It was speaking to me. It was telling me that what I am experiencing had been experienced by others.
Aubrey is a therapist but she speaks from a familiar place because she lost a loved one. This book is lovingly crafted by an Author who understands what we are going through when we experience grief because she went through it!
Needless to say, this book is exactly like having your own personal therapist (it's a very close, cheap second at the very least) who is also a trusted friend.
I can't say that I am all better (because as this book points out, that isn't the point) but I can say that it helped me feel ready. And I know, with the strategies presented in this book, I'm going to be able to create my new normal when the time comes.
Thank you, Aubrey, from me and my family.

The message here isn’t pushy or condescending, either, and that’s something I really enjoyed about it. The author speaks from a place of empathy and understanding. She too has experienced devastating losses in her life and uses those experiences to help others going through what she has.
The lessons in this audiobook are great as well. I enjoyed things like hearing the fact that we all process grief differently and that it’s okay to handle that grief in our own ways. It’s also okay to open up to others about our struggles and ask for help, the author compassionately points out.
If you’re going through something difficult in your own life, or are trying to help someone you know get through such a process, give this one a listen.

The global pandemic is taking more lives than necessary. If you’ve been impacted by the loss of a loved one or friend this guide will provide you with a framework from which you can better manage your grief. For me, it helped shed some positive light on a deeply moving period in my life. I especially found Chapter 7 helpful as it focused on how to prepare for triggers and avoiding emotional ambushes.
