About this listen

Improve your body, improve your career: an executive fitness plan by experts from the Cooper Wellness Clinic.

Tom Monaghan, the founder of Domino's Pizza, runs four miles a day and spends 30 minutes on the Nautilus machine; Dr. Thomas Frist Jr., CEO of Columbia/HCA Healthcare, uses time between flights to jog around airports; Julian C. Day, chief financial officer for Sears, Roebuck & Company, surfs; President George W. Bush runs three miles a day, four days a week.

Why do these four extremely busy and powerful executives place fitness at the top of their priorities list? Because leaders who are physically fit are better able to handle the enormous demands and pressures that confront them, including endless meetings, grueling travel schedules, high pressure, and stress. For years, The Cooper Wellness Program in Texas has taught high-level executives (including President Bush) the financial benefits of a fitness program. Now this program brings an eight-week, three-part fitness formula to executives across the nation, using the best knowledge available to help busy leaders achieve not just the obvious health benefits, but more effective performance on the job.

Fit to Read

In its print form, this book apparently comes with a CD of additional material and a planning tool. About halfway through, the authors begin to make reference to the CD and near the end suggest that you implement your plan using the accompanying CD. While the book and CD may be useful when combined, the audio book alone doesn’t offer much more than is generally available from free health/fitness sites online. In addition, it relies heavily on lists and steps you should follow that are difficult to jot down while listening and challenging to refer back to later. If they packaged the audio book with the other digital content, it might be worth it.

Mostly Good

I listened to the audiobook twice and the abridgement is a bit choppy. Although it is motivating, I would recommend getting the hardcopy before purchasing the audio version.
