Publisher's summary

Work relationships can be hard. The stress of dealing with difficult people dampens our creativity and productivity, degrades our ability to think clearly and make sound decisions, and causes us to disengage.

In Getting Along, workplace expert and Harvard Business Review podcast host Amy Gallo identifies eight familiar types of difficult coworkers—the insecure boss, the passive-aggressive peer, the know-it-all, the biased coworker, and others—and provides strategies tailored to dealing constructively with each one. She also shares principles that will help you turn things around, no matter who you're at odds with. Taking the high road isn't easy, but Gallo offers a crucial perspective on how work relationships really matter, as well as the compassion, encouragement, and tools you need to prevail—on your terms. She answers questions such as: Why can't I stop thinking about that nasty email?! What's behind my problem colleague's behavior? How can I fix things if they won't cooperate? I've tried everything—what now?

Full of relatable, sometimes cringe-worthy examples, the latest behavioral science research, and practical advice you can use right now, Getting Along is an indispensable guide to navigating your toughest relationships at work—and building interpersonal resilience in the process.

Super helpful book

This book provided a lot of comfort during a very difficult time when I was ready to quit. The author is a fantastic narrator, and very insightful.

Amy Gallo is the sane voice we all need to hear!

This is informative and entertaining. I am really impressed how much Ms. Gallo packed into this book. I usually hate when authors read their own books, but she was terrific.

We all can use advice and help on dealing with those difficult in our humanity. This book helped me so much. Thank you Ms. Gallo for this book.

Good tips to have in a paper book, not so sure about audio

It is a very practical and self reflection book, it is so practical that I would value more the paper version of it to go back to it to look on how to deal with some of these issues.

Self Reflection

This book helps you with self-reflection when dealing with difficult times at work. I enjoyed the first half of the book but the second half focuses too much on what people might think.

Getting Along

Having recently finished this book, I found it to be an average read. While there were a few nuggets of useful information that contributed to my understanding of workplace dynamics, much of the content felt repetitive or familiar from other sources. Although it didn't significantly enhance my knowledge, I appreciate the effort put into compiling practical advice. Overall, I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars

Practical and effective techniques for navigating difficult interactions in the workplace

Amy Gallo’s clear expertise on emotions, difficult situations, and change in the workplace shines through in this triumphant exploration of real life professional situations and in-depth research.

I appreciate her practical suggestions and effective techniques for how to think about various situations that arise in the modern working world. She helps listeners face hard truths about privilege, gender, and race and expertly shows how bad behavior and ill intent are not the only factors at play when things go wrong.

This book is a must-read for anyone wanting to learn how to navigate the working world to build a connected, authentic, and kind workspace while also building success for themselves and their teams.

Woke book

This book feeds into the woke agenda. I didn’t buy this book to hear the left’s political stance.
