About this listen

When the world is upside down and the future uncertain, is it possible to find happiness? Happiness expert Tal Ben-Shahar unequivocally says yes! In Happier, No Matter What, he gives listeners a toolbox for finding hope and purpose - the SPIRE method. This nuanced approach has five key realms:

  • Spiritual: Are we living mindfully?
  • Physical: Do we take care of our bodies?
  • Intellectual: Are we challenged and curious?
  • Relational: Do we nurture connections that nurture us?
  • Emotional: Are our feelings both honored and balanced?

By assessing each area, we gain insight into our "baseline happiness" - and about how to build the resilience necessary to weather all of life's ups and downs, no matter what.

Good read

Probably a book most of the world should read. On my happiness and spiritual journey, I have found this book confirms all the things needed for overall well-being. It was nice to find all this out for myself, and then hear that science backs it up. With the acronym SPIRE, I have found all to be very important, with spiritual well-being, and having healthy loving relationships, to be superior.

Great Read!

Very insightful. Practical and inspiring. I can see how putting to practice the suggestions can lead to a more rich and yes happy life in what is undoubtedly a complex world. Much of what happens is not in our control. But how we go about experiencing and accepting it could be.

Principles of Emotional and Physical Well Being

This has become my Bible. I turn to it often to replenish the ability to cope with anxiety and negativity that are all too common in our day to day dealings.

Antifragility is a key concept

I’m a psychotherapist and this is now a highly-recommended book in my library.
Ben-Shahar builds on the work of those like Nassim Taleb to help the concept of Antifragility become increasingly mainstream.

Ideally mandatory reading for all age levels

Absolutely loved this book and thought the author summarized the research and presented it in a wonderfully organized and outlined form making it easy to understand. Very practical, actionable suggestions for making a difference noches in one’s mood, but in their relationships and ultimately the world. Five stars. Highly recommend

Not recommended

Don’t waste your time. This book was dull and full of common sense advice such as: exercise, be mindful, stay curious, have empathy and help others. That’s the entirety of the book. The End.
