About this listen

Find out how to successfully resolve your most emotionally charged conflicts. In this landmark book, world-renowned Harvard negotiation expert Daniel Shapiro presents a groundbreaking, practical method to reconcile your most contentious relationships and untangle your toughest conflicts.

Before you get into your next conflict, listen to Negotiating the Nonnegotiable. It is not just another book on conflict resolution but a crucial step-by-step guide to resolve life's most emotionally challenging conflicts - whether between spouses, a parent and child, a boss and an employee, or rival communities or nations. These conflicts can feel nonnegotiable because they threaten your identity and trigger what Shapiro calls the tribes effect - a divisive mind-set that pits you against the other side. Once you fall prey to this mind-set, even a trivial argument with a family member or colleague can mushroom into an emotional uproar.

Shapiro offers a powerful way out, drawing on his pioneering research and global fieldwork in consulting for everyone from heads of state to business leaders, embattled marital couples to families in crisis. And he shares his insights from negotiating with three of the world's toughest negotiators: his three young sons. This is a must-listen to improve your professional and personal relationships.

Dan, Is a star in the Harvard Program on Negotiations (PON). I just had a class with him this last week. He doesn't just teach, but also listens. He practices what he preaches, which is rare. I walked away from that course knowing I had learned something from everyone but I learned the most from Dan.

While, I am still perplexed by the ethical problem that he proposed as a final exercise - hell I am still thinking about it - maybe that was his lesson, maybe not - it doesn't really matter. He did something right if that is the only thing I walked away with.

I bought this today - will start it today but with him as both the author and narrator I am pretty darn confident that he will exceed expectations. Do note that Dan is a self trained magician - expect a surprise. Happy listening!

Dan is a legend - you think his writing is good...

this book read really well and kept me interested entirely. however because there's so much useful information I may need to also buy the physical copy of the book to review the concepts.

sure to be really useful

My review might be slightly unfair, since I had somewhat rigid expectations. But what I expected was something a lot more instructional, and this book is way too story-heavy. For example, a bunch of stories were told about the tribal experiment failing, but without pointing out what should have happened instead. Listening felt like an exercise in frustration. To be fair, there might yet be a section where this is specified, but even so, the build up is way too long.

Too narrative for my taste

It's all about conflict resolution. Very insightful and inspiring, lots of tools to deal with emotions. But most of the issues analyzed are about conflict resolution; not so much negotiation. When faced with negotiations that are emotionally charged, then this book will come in handy.
Also you're probably better off buying the book rather than the audiobook, there's just too many bullet points to keep track of while listening.

The subtitle should've been the title

Este foi um dos melhores livros, ou o melhor, que já li de negociação. Ele é objetivo e baseado na ciência (psicologia, neurociência, antropologia, sociologia e outras). Congrats para o autor!

Ótimo livro!

This book should be a requirement for every politician serving in office, especially the president! Thank you Daniel for your wisdom. I'm already applying the therapy to my own life and relationship w my spouse to be, or not to be.
