About this listen

Healing the Addicted Brain is a breakthrough work that focuses on treating drug and alcohol addiction as a biological disease - based on the Recovery Science program that has helped thousands of patients defeat their addictions. It combines the best behavioral addiction treatments with the latest scientific research into brain functions, providing tools and strategies designed to overcome the biological factors that cause addictive behavior along with proven treatments and medications.

Using this scientific approach, you will learn to conquer the physical factors that keep people tied to drug and alcohol addiction. The proven fact is that addiction is not a moral failing or an issue of not having enough willpower. It is a disease of the brain that can and must be treated like other chronic medical illnesses - such as diabetes, hypertension, or asthma - in order to defeat the disease.

This revolutionary program can triple the success rate of patients, from 20-30% to 90%.

There is hope. By understanding addiction and using 21st-century breakthroughs, for the first time drug and alcohol addiction can be, and will be, defeated.

Outstanding and enlightening

Good narration. The comprehensiveness of this book astounded me! I learned many many new facts about impulse control, relapse prevention and precisely how to handle family dynamics with diplomacy and firmness. So glad I chose to have a listen. I never realized that one can be an alcoholic and be in denial about it. The damage alcohol does to the brain and body overall is devastating. Really appreciate this book. Quite an eye opener!

Too much western medicine

The book is great but it relies too much on Western Medicine. There are almost no mentions of holistic/natural/alternative/herbal approach.

Excellent resource

I just finished this and recommend it highly. Mostly aimed at addicts, but also helpful to someone like me who had an addicted family member. He’s a dog in the field, so very informed. No wasted minutes. Chock full of good info. Narrator is robotic, but that’s fine. I was here for facts, not fun.

Great resource for recovery support.

This book is written for both those recovering from addiction and their supporting family/friends. I've been on the journey of recovery more than a year and got new ideas and perspective from every section of the book. My only complaint is the heavy focus on 12-step groups, which aren't for everyone. There's great alternatives to NA/AA out there.

Great Book

Narrator sounds super artificial (almost robotic). Repeatedly pronounced “satiety”incorrectly. Content of book is great

Helps you understand what addicted person feels

I've gained a lot of insight on how addicted person feels like. Probably the most important information for me was that addicted brain is literally broken and it's not up to good will of addicted person to act appropriately. Also I like that there were many recommendations on how to handle certain emotions. I didn't like the fact that links to resources aren't valid. Unfortunately all this knowledge didn't help the person I wanted to help. Therapies and my attempts to explain and help aren't enough. Also medicines recommended in this book are really expensive in my country.
