About this listen

A spicy, sassy, and swoony fake dating romantic comedy from Amazon Charts bestselling author Jennifer Millikin.

A week on an island sounds like the stuff of beach dreams, but for Paisley Royce, it's a nightmare. Her little sister is marrying her ex-college sweetheart, and Paisley is serving as maid of honor. To add insult to injury, nobody will let Paisley forget she's single.

Bachelorette weekend changes everything when she runs into her old college frenemy, Klein Madigan.

Klein is still intelligent and funny, and somehow time has only made him more attractive.

Paisley is Klein's one that got away, not that he'd ever admit it to her. A colossal misstep (and one terrible kiss) in college sealed their fate.

Or so they thought.

Klein's an aspiring author allergic to social media. Paisley owns a digital marketing agency.

A brilliant plan is hatched: A trip across the country for a week of faking out her family in exchange for her firm marketing his work.

One hastily scrawled and signed contract on a bar napkin later, Paisley and Klein embark on a journey of tension, only one bed, and fake dating shenanigans.

Paisleys goal is to survive the week.

Klein's plan is to enjoy the sun, sand, and wedding cake.

But then there's a scorching kiss to make up for that bad one in college.

And another kiss in a lighthouse during a thunderstorm. A gentle palm on Paisleys lower back, and a reassuring hand squeeze under the table.

Everyone is convinced Klein and Paisley are the real deal, but as the week wears on, they begin to wonder if the only people they're kidding are themselves.

What an amazing read!!!

This book was such a fun read that had me feeling all the happy vibes. I seriously swooned so hard over Paisley and Klein. Their chemistry. Their banter. PERFECTION!! The overall sweetness and giddiness that this book brought me has me wanting to reread it over and over again.

What to expect:
🍰Second Chance(ish)
🏖️College Nemesis
💜Fake Dating
🍰One Bed
🏖️Close Proximity
💜No 3rd Act Breakup

When Paisley’s sister asks her to be her maid of honor, she can’t tell her no. Why should she tell her sister no…well I’m so glad you asked…because she’s marrying Paisley’s ex!!!! After running into Klein (her college nemesis) during the bachelorette party, a plan is hatched…fake date to help each other out.

Are you ready to add a new book boyfriend to your collection…Klein is the crème de la crème of book boyfriends! He is so darn lovable. He’s the perfect mix of vulnerable, cinnamon roll, and total alpha all rolled into one delicious package. I seriously love this man so much. The way he sticks up for Paisley will have you swooning so hard.

I am totally obsessed with this book and it’s definitely one of my favorites for the year.

Wordsmith = Swoon!

🎧🔈 I recently had the pleasure of listening to the ALC copy of the audiobook "Here for the Cake" by Jennifer Millikin, narrated by Hannah Chiclana and Aaron Donahue, and I must say, it was a high-energy, positive experience that left me feeling pumped and ready for the summer!

From start to finish, I was completely hooked on every aspect of this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it in just a couple of days! The story was captivating, the characters were relatable, and the writing was superb.

One of the highlights for me was the duet narration. Aaron Donahue, who brought the character Kline to life, was swoon-worthy. His performance was so convincing that I thought it was Zachary Webber narrating! I've found a new narrator voice that I need more of.

Jennifer Millikin's talent as a wordsmith shines through in this story. I loved how she skillfully developed the characters, from the main couple Pasley and Kline to their parents, siblings, and best friends. Each character had a unique backstory, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative.

As a fan of romantic comedies, this audiobook was a delight. It had all the elements I love in the genre - humor, romance, a touch of sweetness with a pinch of sass, and a good backbone. It left me with a big smile and a warm, fuzzy feeling.

If you're looking for a fun and heartwarming audiobook to enjoy this summer, Save the Date 😉 for May 2nd and listen to "Here for the Cake." You won't be disappointed!

I received an ALC copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

The perfect book boyfriend

Absolutely beautiful 🤩 this audiobook 🥰

This was my first book by this author and both narrators were new to me but let me tell you one thing, this audiobook was magnificent.

The performance of both narrators was pure perfection. Hannah with her playful, smiling voice, plus all the different voices she did, and Aaron with his kind and beautiful voice. Add to that a duet narration and you have the perfect combination. I was totally and deeply into it. I enjoyed every second of it.

Paisley and Klein are pretending to be together for Paisley's sister's wedding. They've known each other in the past, but being so close is dangerous. The attraction, the tension, the banter, all the funny moments... perfect.

They were beautiful characters and the story is well written. Everything moves at just the right pace. I'm completely in love. I also have to say that Klein is definitely an excellent book boyfriend maybe the best.

This audiobook made me laugh, smile and feel happy. I had a great time listening to it.

Needless to say, I absolutely encourage you to read this book, or better yet, listen to it. You'll thank me later 😅😊.

Heartwarming and Fun

I came for the cake, but I stayed for this epically charming romance! This was such a sweet, swoony, and delightfully romantic love story! I could not put this book down. Jennfier Millikin is a new to me author, but with the way I gobbled Here For the Cake right up, I'll definitely be back for more. It's witty, it's clever, it's wonderfully sentimental and adorable- and it's so gosh darn fun and dreamy. This is the epitome of heartfelt, feel-good, uplifting romance. It's truly a breath of fresh air, and one that filled my heart completely.

Paisley finds herself in the most AWKWARD of situations- she's the maid of honor in her sister's wedding...to her ex who broke her heart. YIKES. AS if the wedding wasn't already going to be complicated with her family drama. Oh my. The icing on the proverbial awkward cake? A miserable bachelorette party with all her sister's friends that calls even more attention to her embarassing situation. But serendipity is sweet- and Paisley runs into old college hook-up Klein at the bar. They've got some awkward history themselves, but a plan is hatched. Fake dating. Klein gets help launching his writing career with Paisley's marketing acumen...and Paisley gets a hot boyfriend to take to her sister's wedding. Let the fun begin.

Y'all this was just so fun and charming. The banter was chef's kiss, the chemistry was electric, and the humor was clever and witty. Both characters are likable and complex- each with their own baggage their working through. And I loved how a beautiful, sincere, and supportive friendship blossoms and then evolves into a really layered romantic connection. These two are also DELICIOUS together- turns out Klein is a dirty talking poet in the bedroom too. I am a GONER for Klein.

Millikin delivers all the layers- fun, spice, heart, compelling characters, and we have lots of fun antics, sweet moments, and two characters that grow into themselves. The secondary plotlines are thoughtfully woven and meaningful resolved, and the icing on the cake? A wonderful idyllic beachy setting that added to the light and airy, lower angst feeling.

The audio was fantastically performed, and I just found myself goofily grinning the entire time. I was charmed and mesmerized and fell MADLY in love with this book. And now I'm off to devour more Millikin.

What to expect:
🍰Second Chance
🍰College Frenemies
🍰Fake Dating
🍰Oh my- one bed! / forced proximity
🍰Cinnamon Roll Hero (who talks the dirty)
🍰Beachy vibes

Adorable

This was such a cute fake dating romance. I loved every second of this book. I also liked that they had a small history and it wasn't just a random person she asked to fake date her for her sister's wedding. I also like the build up and banter throughout the book. I recommend this for a fun relaxing summer read!

Great audiobook!

This book was so cute! What would you do when your sister is marrying your ex? Naturally you’d make a deal with someone from college to be your fake boyfriend. And that’s exactly what Paisley does. However to Klein, Paisley is the one who got away. Klein is so sweet & I loved watching his fake relationship with Paisley grow & transform. I will say Paisley has way more patience than I ever would when dealing with her sister & ex.

Such a cute audio! Didn’t recognize either narrators, but I thoroughly enjoyed both! I flew through this audiobook simply because I was having fun listening to it. It’s the perfect rom com with spicy & sweet moments. This is my first book by Jennifer & will not be my last!

Perfection!

What to Expect:
- Enemies to Friends to Lovers
- Fake Dating
- Close Proximity
- Second Chance
- Only One Bed
- He Falls First
- Witty Banter
- No Third Act Breakup

Paisley's sister is getting married and asks Paisley to serve as her maid of honor. Her sister is marrying Paisley's ex-boyfriend, so Paisley doesn't want to deal with the wedding alone. Enter Klein. Paisley and Klein were in a writing course together in college. Klein was interested in Paisley, and they shared one drunken kiss. However, after harshly critiquing one of her writing assignments for the class, Klein's dream of being in Paisley's life was crushed. The embarrassment and hurt she experienced lingered, so Paisley was less than thrilled to see him when they reconnected eight years later. They talk and realize they each have something to offer the other. Klein needs help marketing his books, and Paisley needs a date for the wedding. After signing a contract on a napkin, their mutually beneficial agreement is set in motion.

Here for the Cake is such a cute story! I had a smile on my face the entire time. I love the fake dating trope, and it was executed perfectly. Klein and Paisley are perfect for each other. They have amazing chemistry, and the banter was really fun. Paisley's situation is certainly less than ideal. I can't imagine being asked to be a part of your sister and ex-boyfriend's wedding. Poor thing just wanted to survive the week. I love the growth Paisley experienced throughout the story. She was a people pleaser who allowed her family to walk all over her. They always expected her to say 'yes' to anything they asked. With Klein's support, Paisley was able to finally start standing up for herself. Klein is the perfect golden retriever guy. He is sweet, witty, attentive, supportive, charming, and overall swoon-worthy. Paisley is the one who got away, and Klein is all in with her.

This was such a great read! Here for the Cake had everything I needed - well-developed main characters, interesting side characters, lots of laughs, tension, romance, and spice. Also, the dyslexia representation is spot on! This book is highly recommended for those looking for a fun and adorable story that will have you smiling from ear to ear.

NARRATION:
Hannah Chiclana and Aaron Donahue narrated this story. They both did an amazing job. The story is amazing, but Hannah and Aaron's performances made it even more enjoyable. They really brought the characters to life. Hannah and Aaron gave the characters the perfect personalities and made me feel all of the emotions this story evoked.

This book was perfection

This month, I plan to re-read so I can highlight all the things because this book was just too good to enjoy only with your ears. BUT if you are an audio girlie, the narration was 🤌🏻 The narrators did an absolute perfection job honing in on the characters and their personalities. It didn't feel like I was just being read a book, which on my opinion is the main thing that matters to me. I want to FEEL the story, like I'm watching a movie. and this performance was a 10/10! 🙌🏻

Paisley is the maid of honor for her baby sisters wedding, to her EX BOYFRIEND. The last thing she wants to do is show up to the wedding dateless. When she runs into an old flame from college the night of the bachelorette party, her wheels get turning and she finds herself in a fake relationship with Klein.

Paisley is Klein's "one that got away" but he tampers down all his feelings in hopes to help her.

I absolutely devoured this audio book. The narrators were PERFECTION and the storyline was so much fun, sweet and spicyyyy. I loved the banter between Paisley and Klein. Their history is a little messy but they find themselves moving on from it along the way.
