About this listen

New York Times best-selling authors Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands combine talents in this thrilling historical romance. Set in the rugged Scottish Highlands, here is the spellbinding tale of two men destined to live by night with a hunger only the blood of Outsiders can quench - and a passion only two extraordinary women can satisfy....

Cousins Heming MacNachton and Tearlach MacAdie are bound by the same blood, the same ancient curse, and now the same quest: to search out the enemies of their clan-hunters who consider them soulless demons and intend to exterminate them. But no sooner have Heming and Tearlach begun than they are drugged, separated, and taken captive. One is brought deep into the borderlands of Scotland, the other, in the dreary depths of Northern England.

Brona Kerr and Lady Lucy Blytheswood are irresistibly drawn to the mysterious prisoners. Together, the women resolve to save them. In doing so, they will safeguard the clan's future and their own. Now Brona and Lucy must cross perilous terrain to fight for their lives - and for the men with whom they discover an eternal passion they never imagined....

Left hanging

I enjoyed both books very much but I was disappointed with the first because there was no epilogue. But, I knew when Ms. Sands' book started that I'd get my epilogue and even thought how clever it was to wrap both stories up in just one epilogue. Then, as m'lady said near the end of Ms. Sands' book, I found myself "left hanging", and I'm quite frustrated by it. While I don't think anything can top the epilogue with the laird "complaining" that his sons were "purring", you could have done better. I need to know how the cat faired while it's missus was away? I thought with the arrival of his cousin's small traveling party and with the dog, I definitely expected there would be gifts of a kitten and puppy to grow up with the bairn. I also hoped to hear that all three ladies were with child. I suppose that is predictable enough but after the twists and turns of the books, I wanted predictable. I didn't demand an explanation of how one cousin could tolerate some sun but the other couldn't, genetics are complicated. I did hope to find out that Lucy would also live a very long life, but that was implied by the fact her mother-in-law was not only English but looked too young to have a full grown son. And, I wouldn't be carrying-on so, if I weren't so vested in the characters which is a sign of an enjoyable book(s). I'm off to find the next in the series. I've been reading a great deal of non-fiction as of late, this is a wonderful way to cleanse my palette!
