Publisher's summary

Immortality comes at a steep price.

Faced with a heartrending loss, Lox walks down a dark path. He knew there would be a cost for immortality, but he didn’t know he would have to face it so soon.

He must make decisions he never thought he would face.

A darkness is lingering in the world. Maybe what it needs right now isn’t a hero to save it, but a monster to hunt the bigger monsters threatening all of existence.

Rage guides Lox's path. But will that be enough to hold off the coming darkness? Or will consume him first?

Don't miss this epic LitRPG/GameLit series that features leveling, advanced magic systems, dungeon crawling, world exploration, and much more. It's perfect for fans of books like Emarilia, World Tree, and Ascend Online.

Different vibe then the rest

Was a great book and story. Had a different vibe from the others. Thought some of it was weird. Things he was unwilling to do before because of Especially stated reason he now does. Then exactly what he said would happen happened. But still a great book and story

narration.

I don't understand why you have to change narrators after 4 books. especially one who sounds nothing like the previous narrator. Just another series that can't be finished and more money wasted. I run a excavator in a quarry for 11 hours a day 6 days a week and I'm at the point now I'd rather go to a truck stop and buy audible books in cd format. at least that way I'll know I can actually finish a series. lately it seems they use the good narrators to get you hooked and then change it knowing they already got your money. next we will find out that the books audible books we buy we will no longer own. i have over 1100 audio book and a few I own already say I have buy them again. very disappointed.

Important to note:

It should be noted, this is technically the fifth book in the World of Magic series, however considering the ending of the fourth book, the time skip and events in the beginning of this book, I can absolutely understand separating it into a new series.

This book follows the MC in dealing with the trauma of loss in both healthy and deeply unhealthy ways and, as the title might indicate, delves deeper into the realistic costs of true immortality. Over all, it's a great read that continues a story I deeply enjoyed to begin with with new focus characters and the removal of one of my least favorite annoyances from the first series. The catharsis is real.

Good but....

The story is good, It does lag at times and this is a ongoing series, get The World of Magic series book 1 before this one. Its an abrupt change in Narrators and it seems like He did not do his research on prior books. The MC and the way he talks to people takes you out of the story with his heavy accent now and the way he rolls his words. Its weird cause when he thinks his voice is normal and that was ok. The Guild leader sounds like a southern hick now. Why change Narrators and the 5th book ( 1st in this series) came out last summer 2023 and the 4th book just came out in March 2024 with the old narrator.

Over All for The Narrator I have not listen to before he did great but coming in 4 books deep is a hard ask on anyone to except .
Cover Art is well done

Sorry I was in the wrong audience for this one...

Sorry this one never resonated with me. I actually stuck with it because the premise of the story was interesting and I was waiting to see if Levi Werner could get me to come around as the action generally speeds up in the second half of the book, and it did... but unfortunately it never caught me in it's web. I actually never cared a whit for the main character and their troubles. I really don't know why because I generally live for hijinks aboard a ship at sea...

As bad as it sounds I felt like Vanessa was holding the story back since needed to be protected and complained about it.

My biggest complaints are the discontinuity between the previous book arcs. Felix was a fire mage not an ice mage. The previous Executive Officer, forgot his name by the end of the book- Eudward I think, was an Immortal not an NPC.

Next I like books with a sexual undercurrent but I'm disappointed there isn't any homosexuality, not even a side character somewhere. You dedicated an entire mermaid experience to sex but not even a kiss between men?

Like the book and the direction. The change in narrator is weird but I deducted points from the book not the narrator, his performance was not bad. There are some editing errors and incorrect names used.

Don't know why you needed a new series as this technically continues from the last book but I guess it's to allow for the continuity flaws.

Something is off...

Listening to the first 3 hours, I kept thinking I was missing some big story, but the book shows it is the first book. However, the exact same book on Amazon shows it is Book 5 in the World of Magic series. What's going on? The performance is great. I'd look for him again.

Good LitRPG, especially if you like the undead

follow the adventures of Lox as he fights his way across the seas. Lox seems himself as a Privateer.
listen as he gets caught up in a world war.
good narrator with a wide voice range.

long live the undead.

Different Narrator

Let me start with the narrator does a good job. The big big draw back is that it is so different from the rest of the books in the series. Taking on a whole new accent has changed the character and now seems so unfamiliar to me. Overall good but know the character will change in your mind.
