About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Mary Balogh comes the first novel in the Horsemen trilogy, a scandalous romance of yearning passion and dangerous desires....

In the country visiting his twin brother, Viscount Rawleigh longs for a little diversion, and beautiful young widow Catherine Winters seems like easy prey. But Rex's target is a lady of virtue, and when she roundly rejects his improper proposal to become his mistress, Rex finds himself faced with a delectable challenge.

Catherine knows she must fight the indecent feelings the viscount arouses within her - feelings that bring to life a past she had sought to escape - even as the handsome lord refuses to relent in his amorous attentions. But even though she knows one kiss could bring her to ruin, temptation proves an insurmountable foe - and Catherine cannot ignore the beating of her treacherous heart....

Good story

The narrator does a great job Itelling a story of a young lady who didn't feel like she could be loved again and in the end finding someone to love her. the author is so good at weaving mysteries and capturing your attention.

A good example of the unfair treatment of women in this era. Also a reminder that misogyny still exists in today’s world.

I enjoyed the story. Mary Balogh never disappoints. Rosalyn Landor is the best of narrators. She enhances every book she reads and makes each character come alive.

EXCELLENT!

This was probably one of my favorites to date. The story was intriguingly different than most. The heroine has a tragic past and the hero starts out as a jerk but redeems himself because of his love for her.

started slow for me

I love this author. I haven't found a book yet that I haven't liked but I have to say this one started a bit slow and took me a bit to get into. but once I really got into the story I was sort of sad that the story ended when it did. I really loved it.

Excellent Story

Most of Mary Balogh’s books hook me in the first chapter, sometimes in the first paragraph. This one took a bit longer to sink its teeth in, but once it did, I couldn’t stop. Usually, MB’s main characters are wounded in some way, and this was the same. As usual, this couple finds the healing power of love after conquering many obstacles. The conflicts are presented within the struggles the characters have within themselves, although I did find myself yelling indignantly at the obvious unfairness of the situation. In the end, it gets wrapped up with a pretty bow.

Rosalyn can do no wrong. She is always exemplary.

Very good.

I had some issues with Rex. I know this is an historical novel and a different culture...but it was hard to read the hero as such an ass. Fortunately he had an epiphany and realized the depth of his selfishness. Loved Catherine. I do recommend.

Rosalyn Landor is the best.

Excellent Writer Writes Another Good Book

I do enjoy reading romance novels about the English Aristocracy of the 19th century and this writer is on my short list of favorites who can write a fresh story about the same old English.

Excellent view of romantic vantage points

Very enjoyable romance told in such a way that you see the relationships through the eyes of different characters. Good friends, frustrating snobs, resilient women, and noble men are part of this sexy and sad romance that comes full circle at the end. R.Landor is always an outstanding narrator. I’m looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.
