Publisher's summary

Exploring the nature of how our experience of what we call “self” emerges across the lifespan.

Both a personal and general meditation on identity and belonging, Daniel J. Siegel’s book combines personal reflections with scientific discussions of how the mind, brain, and our relationships shape who we are. Weaving the internal and external, the subjective and objective, IntraConnected reveals how our culture may give us a message of separation as a solo, isolated self, but a wider perspective unveils that who we are may be something more―broader than the brain, bigger even than the body―and fundamental to social systems and the natural world.

Our body-based self―the origin of a Me―is not only connected to others but connected within our relational worlds themselves―a WE―forming the essence of how we belong and our identity. If the pandemic has taught us nothing else, it has taught us that we are all connected. IntraConnected discusses that bond, as well as other realities of our intraconnected lives.

A must read for the citizens of the future as it emerges

I’ve read several books of the author before, yet I find this one and amazing synthesis of his life work.
As I read I found many authors I read before from many different domains. It was an amazing journey from the beginning to the end.
It helps INTEGRATE knowledge from different corners of the world, different disciplines, and different realms.
A guide to become a better human and a better agent in the universe.
It may be hard to read despite the simplicity with which all ideas are introduced and interwoven; the reason is “simply” the “complexity” of the the issues it addresses.

Brilliantly integrated & timely

Dan’s depth of insight is second to none and is rooted in his own experiential knowing and practicing his methods of Mindsight.

His very relevant and timely message for collaborative connection (Me+We=Mwe) is a necessary path to sustain intelligent cooperation to preserve all life on planet earth.

A must read and more importantly, a necessary practice process for regenerative growth!

VERY academic.

I heard the author on a podcast and was intrigued by his ideas. I just couldn't sustain the intrigue through this very academic book.

Painful dissection

Meticulously dissects concepts to a very painful level losing the reader from the main idea he is sharing. Unfortunately because the message is very important for all.

like one big run-on sentence

Mr. Siegel doesn't break the book up by chapters he just goes and goes reading, which makes it feel like a big run on sentence.
My other issue was the whole time I was wondering when he was going to get the point, 3 to 4 hours in and I'm still wondering what he is trying to convey in this book, what exactly is this book about? I still don't know. Also there is a good amount of terminology used that perhaps if I were a neuroscientist I'd get but unfortunately I'm not so, out of the window that all goes.
