A strange cry for help distracts Daniel from his boring study session. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he is thrust through a portal where he emerges into a fantasy world of myth, magic, dragons and war.
His arrival grants him a special opportunity. After stumbling upon a dying dragon, he discovers an egg that is about to hatch. Daniel knows a grand adventure awaits him, and he seizes the moment to become a dragon rider.
Fame, fortune, lust, and glory await Daniel. But they come at a steep cost. Dark forces are gathering, and they want Daniel dead.
But Daniel is not alone. The Wild Dragon Rider will be joined by his Firebound—an assortment of lovely female dragon riders who can help Daniel turn the tide of the war. Assuming he survives long enough to make a difference!

What an awesome new series

First, the supposedly college-age main character acting like an overwrought 12 year old. Zero critical thinking, zero self control, utterly naive, falls into an unresponsive, drooling stupor when he sees a female of any variety... He's like the world's most embarrassing caricature of an anime protagonist. The male narrator plays hard into it and makes it almost painful to listen to at various points.
Second, the pacing is insanity. This book probably should have been two books with some more fleshing out and reordering. It's like a rollercoaster that consists entirely of a single near-vertical drop, and entire scenes are inexplicably skipped over rather than used for any kind of character or story development.
For the rest... The codex is neat, but could do with some more focus. The magic system is extremely hand-wavy and vague but mostly works in spite of that. The sex is, frankly, boring and one-note. The supporting cast and world are interesting where the MC is not. I'm starved for new books and there's enough to like here that I finished it out and moved on to the second book anyway. I'm hoping for some improvement there.
Arguably worth buying but be prepared for a rough ride.
Frustrating MC and chaotic pacing

But he's got his new dragon buddy with him and they add a few beautiful women to their little circle, among others.
Awesome story
I'm giving this book 8 out of 5 stars.
