About this listen

Love Is Fear is the highly anticipated sequel to the number-one fantasy best seller, Love Is Darkness.

After a lot of swearing and only a little nookie, Valerie Dearborn has decided to make a change. No more lusting after Lucas, the hot but emotionless vampire king who can't commit. Instead she's going to make it work with Jack. After all, not only is he breathing, but he's the love of her life...isn't he?

Valerie is an empath with supernatural abilities that seem to do nothing more than give her the hots for Lucas. Once upon a time, empaths had a purpose. They were ambassadors to the others - fey, witches, werewolves, and vampires. They could settle the emotions of a werewolf and make vampires feel again.

But that was long ago.

Lucas isn't about to let Valerie go. He needs her to help him find the fey, last seen in the Colony of Roanoke, North Carolina, circa 1587. He still believes they are the key to restoring balance to the world and the only way to keep vampires under control. They won't trust him, but they will trust Val.

Between Jack, Lucas, and Rachel, Val knows life won't be dull. Nor will it be the normal, 2.5 kids kind of life she's always wanted.

As their enemies close in, Val must ask herself what life is really about - trust, duty, or mind-blowing orgasms? And even if she finds the answer, she may not live long enough to enjoy it.

Please note: This novel is not YA and has lots of sass, swearing, and sex. Not necessarily in that order.

Tedious

Would you try another book from Caroline Hanson and/or Emily Woo Zeller?

I won't be getting the next book in this series for a while.

Would you ever listen to anything by Caroline Hanson again?

Only if she can cut back on the whiney heroine bit.

Any additional comments?

Let me preface this with the following: It may be my mood at the moment and maybe I should have saved this to listen to at a later date, but I found it rather irritating. The first book in the series was good, but you would think that by the second Val would have a little bit more of a clue. For someone that's supposed to be the heroine she's rather whiney, greedy(i.e. wanting both Jack and Lucas and pretty much if she wants them but doesn't want them but doesn't really want anyone else to have them either), and rather fickle in her loyalty. It really started to grate on me to the point that I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to finish it. I in fact did fast forward through a lot without missing any of the important bits of the story line.I don't actually care enough about what happens to her to buy the next book in the series. If my mood changes and I feel as if I care enough to find out what happen to sit through the crybaby heroine then I may buy the 3rd book in this series, but that isn't going to be right now.

Wishy washy

Valerie seems to have a hard time making up her mind and sticking to it. A little whiny, but kept me interested.

Ok second book so much better

Okay so I was very iffy about the series with the first book because it went back-and-forth past and present too much and I got lost second book so much more interesting for the with the drama and the fighting yeah sucks you right in everything is so wow but the cliffhanger kills.

sub-par story

Not the best, most engaging story I've ever read. There's more sex than story line.

Face palm

Fooled by book one. It's important to have a character you get angry with. A dose of anger is nice ever so slightly. but Valeria is just so dumb. it was brain numbing to get through the book. Either she is a delusional bed hop or just a bed hop. And looking past that, there was little left to be desired. Lucas can't carry the book by himself. That being said, I really don't know if I will bother with the next book.

Not as good as the 1st one

Kind of boring. Senseless sex thrown in. I'm done with this series. Can't risk book three. I might get nausea.

Eh

If you could sum up Love Is Fear in three words, what would they be?

Gets better

If you’ve listened to books by Caroline Hanson before, how does this one compare?

This book has a lot of sex! Once you get through the sex the story does pick up!

What about Emily Woo Zeller’s performance did you like?

she is great with accents and making the characters sound real.

Didn't find it interesting

Would you try another book from Caroline Hanson and/or Emily Woo Zeller?

I would not try another book. This is the second I've listened too and it was a disappointment. Instead of the main character gaining so self-insight and growth she seemed to become more immature and lazy about who and what she is.

What was most disappointing about Caroline Hanson’s story?

Lacked movement, it took a very long time for the story to actually go anywhere and when it did it didn't go far. The main character sounded like a spoiled brat and very immature.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

My reaction was disappointment and boredom.

Any additional comments?

This is a very sexually explicit book but not in a good way.

Interesting

Would you try another book from Caroline Hanson and/or Emily Woo Zeller?

Yes, although the story is a bit basic, without many elements, the plot is interesting.

Would you ever listen to anything by Caroline Hanson again?

Yes.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emily Woo Zeller?

I don't know. When I buy a audible's book I don't look for the narrator. Of course, I recognize them, but this isn't the most importante mark for me.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The fact I didn't love the book don't mean I dislike at all. It's just I've listening better book.
