About this listen

The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell burners, Earth joined a vast empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder.

In the fourth book of the series, James McGill is up for promotion. Not everyone is happy about that, and McGill must prove he's worth his stripes. Deployed to a strange, alien planet outside the boundaries of the Galactic Empire, he's caught up in warfare and political intrigue. Earth expands, the Cephalopod Kingdom launches ships to stop us, and a grand conspiracy emerges among the upper ranks of the Hegemony military.

In Machine World McGill faces an entirely new kind of alien life, Galactic prosecution, and thousands of relentless squid troopers. He lives and dies in the falling ashes of the empire, a man of unique honor at the dawn of humanity's resurgence.

Machine World is a military science fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson. (To find the first book in the series, search for Steel World by B. V. Larson.)

Next book please.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series. Mark Boyett's narration was awesome, as usual. Keep them coming, Mr. Larson.

Great series

My big complaint is that it ended too soon.

It's not a perfect book and maybe not even the best in the series, but I still have to give it 5/5. in the end, it was a story I dint want to put down.

Good story bad character development

While the story was interesting as ever there is a clear lack of character development. McGill still repeats the same reckless behavior while escaping consequences. Carlos is Carlos... Without any true development I only focus on this due to reading four books and the main characters never growing. Like taking Mario from his game and putting him in Halo new environment but he still jumps on turtles and tries to eat all the mushrooms he can. McGill and cohort keep getting put into new worlds only to do the same tricks from through tall four books

Still FRESH in Book 4

even the best writers can't keep a series alive forever but book is not the authors limit.

Machines as a Species

Masterfully done, Machine World takes Sci-Fi to a new level introducing Machines as a living species. Good combat, extensive detail and a story that keeps you interested. Read this, but start with the first book in this Series to appreciate the full scope...

I say boy, damn fine writing!

Actually found it very enjoyable. the relationships are intreging and the protagonist is a scoundrel. I love the combination! The plot us not to complex to become tedious nor so transparent as to be vapid. Can't wait for the next installment!

Great installment for a unforgettable series

I've been listening the undying mercenaries since dust world. Time and time again the writing takes me in a state of a mental movie theater. The writing and characters all mesh so well that it leaves me wanting more. The series is so damn good I'm surprised Hollywood haven't taken up on the story as it is amazing. A good read if you want to escape from work or other activities. Read the whole series from beginning to end and will find yourself giving Mr. Larson a giant high five; then ask when is the next installment in the undying mercenaries series. MUST READ!
