About this listen
Due to the changing winds of fate, my sister Marty needed to take a job selling vacation timeshares in Las Vegas. Many, if not most, take the tour just for the offered goodies. It was an awfully harsh environment to learn in. We talked about relationship-based selling, how to do trial closes, and how to ask closing questions, all of which are recorded here in Make. It. Rain.
I recommended she get a few books on the subject. About a week later, we talked again, she said she had bought and read some books about selling, but that she would rather eat dirt than have to read any more bullet points.
Since I started my love affair with selling at the early age of 15, I had a fondness for the subject that was easy for me to talk about, to tell stories about. She planted the seed for this book a great many years ago now. In my time working for Dale Carnegie Training, I came to deeply understand that telling and listening to stories is where real learning takes place. So, I set about making a story-form sales training audiobook that was built on the values learned working in a family business in a very small town. I have always enjoyed the art of selling, the people I have met, and the lives I have enriched by making damn sure the people got what they need, not what I needed them to have!

Story
Most of us think of sales as convincing potential customers to believe or do something they don't really want to. But that cutthroat mentality makes the process much harder than it has to be—especially in an economic downturn, when customers are more suspicious and defensive. It's far more productive (and satisfying) when salespeople think like Go-Givers and focus exclusively on creating value for the customer.

Sales is a skill anyone can learn and master - and introverts are especially good at it once they learn how to leverage their natural strengths. Introverts aren't comfortable with traditional tactics like aggressively pushing a product or talking over a customer's objections. That's the beauty of The Introvert's Edge: it doesn't focus on the sale itself but on a sales system that helps introverts feel sincere instead of sales-y.

Story
If there's one lesson Oren Klaff has learned over decades of pitching, presenting, and closing long-shot, high-stakes deals, it's that people are sick of being marketed and sold to. Most of all, they hate being told what to think. The more you push them, the more they resist. What people love, however, is coming up with a great idea on their own, even if it's the idea you were guiding them to have all along. Often, the only way to get someone to sign is to make them feel like they're smarter than you.

Story
Good capital allocation is the secret sauce of business success and investment returns. How could what you spend money on inside a business not be of utmost importance? I looked for a business person's guide to effective capital allocation for years. I thought, "What a nice gift to send to the CEOs of my portfolio companies!" as visions of outsized returns danced in my head. To my dismay, the search came up dry. I decided I'd have to write my own. I started at the individual customer transaction level and built all the way up to M&A, share buybacks, and beyond.
