Story
Tell a stranger that you talk to yourself, and you’re likely to get written off as eccentric. But the truth is that we all have a voice in our head. When we talk to ourselves, we often hope to tap into our inner coach but find our inner critic instead. When we’re facing a tough task, our inner coach can buoy us up: Focus - you can do this. But, just as often, our inner critic sinks us entirely: I’m going to fail. They’ll all laugh at me. What’s the use?

Story
In Remember, neuroscientist and acclaimed novelist Lisa Genova delves into how memories are made and how we retrieve them. You'll learn whether forgotten memories are temporarily inaccessible or erased forever and why some memories are built to exist for only a few seconds (like a passcode) while others can last a lifetime (your wedding day). You'll come to appreciate the clear distinction between normal forgetting (where you parked your car) and forgetting due to Alzheimer's (that you own a car).

Story
Everyone can manifest. We're all doing it - every second of every day - without even realising it. For years, journalist and podcaster Jordanna Levin thought that she was psychic. She would worry about things and they would come true. But she wouldn't just worry, she would feel them, take subconscious action towards them and believe with every cell of her being that they would happen - and most of the time, they did. Until one day she changed the game. If she could manifest mishaps and disasters, why not the things she actually wanted?

If you’ve ever dreamed of a basic philosophy of money that’ll help you live bigger, be bolder, and laugh harder, you need this book. In these uncertain times, the basics matter more than ever. But for most of us, concepts such as investing, budgeting, and getting out of debt just don’t float our boats (or 150-foot yachts) — and so we put them off longer than we should.

Story
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Critic reviews
“A charming collection of short almost-stories intended as an antidote to insomnia and restlessness.... Nicolai accomplishes what no other author would want to hear: these stories can put people to sleep.” (Publishers Weekly)
“This collection of very short stories is designed to help readers fall and stay asleep. The stories follow the seasons, starting with winter, and rely heavily on the senses; there are a lot of lovely smells, soft and comfy things, and delicious foods, all described in detail and often accompanied by illustrations in muted tones. Peppered throughout are recipes, meditations, and other relaxation techniques.... The stories do succeed in their goal of helping readers sleep better, and couldn’t we all use more of that?” (Booklist)

Story
In Paris for a weekend visit, Elizabeth Bard sat down to lunch with a handsome Frenchman - and never went home again. Was it love at first sight? Or was it the way her knife slid effortlessly through her pavé au poivre, the steak's pink juices puddling into the buttery pepper sauce? Lunch in Paris is a memoir about a young American woman caught up in two passionate love affairs - one with her new beau, Gwendal, the other with French cuisine.

The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers.
Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
Together again in the house they grew up in, the Waverley sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy - if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom - or with each other.

It's 1969, and the Apollo 11 mission is getting ready to go to the moon. But for half-black, half-Japanese Mimi, moving to a predominantly white Vermont town is enough to make her feel alien. Suddenly, Mimi's appearance is all anyone notices. She struggles to fit in with her classmates, even as she fights for her right to stand out. This historical middle-grade novel is told in poems from Mimi's perspective over the course of one year in her new town, and shows listeners that positive change can start with just one person speaking up.

Educational psychologist Dr. Diane Gillespie uses her knowledge and understanding of stories to craft sleep scenarios designed to help people fall back to sleep in the middle of the night. The stories are set in relaxing places conducive to sleep, and in each story, the character secures her surroundings. Then through the process of attending to peaceful details in the setting, she relaxes her body, lets worries float away, and sinks deeper and deeper into stillness - until she is sound asleep.

It's the podcast but better...
I have been a fan of Kathryn Nicolai's podcast of the same name for a while now. I listen to her soothing voice reading her calming stories nearly every night. For someone with sleep issues stemming back to childhood trauma to be able to say her work and voice makes me feel safe says a lot.
The podcast is great but I'd sometimes be awake for the next story, or simply want to listen to several as I rest during the day without actually trying to sleep, and have to listen to the intro to the next story which was frustrating. With this book, there's no intro interrupting between stories.
I also must say that these are some of her absolute best. They're perfect. They're pure, calming, delicate, soothing, comforting, and warm.
Thank you for writing and reading this book, Kathryn.

Excellent Stories
I listen to this almost every night. I love that it's written almost like "In a Year" sort of style. As much as I love her podcasts this is my favorite. I keep hoping for a part 2!

Just what I was looking for!
I have been looking for something to listen too when I wake up in the night - otherwise my mind will begin to try to solve all of the problems in the world. I tried other "Bedtime Stories for Adults" type books and they were all focused on meditation. I didn't find that relaxing - instead of drifting back off to sleep, I was then focused on the steps involved with their meditation (and the voices of some were off-putting). Nothing Much Happens is exactly what I was looking for. Sweet little stories that engage your mind just enough - but are calming and soothing at the same time. I was also impressed with the narration. Many calming-type audiobooks are syrupy in the narration to the point of cringing. Kathryn Nicolai understood the assignment ;) Well done!!

life changing!
I absolutely love this . This book helps me sleep and honestly keeps me from being scared at night and keeps my nightmares to a minimum ,if I even have any.
It's strange to say but it's almost been a miracle to me.
Thank you for changing my life.
