About this listen

From friendships to Facebook to far-off countries, what do we do when our lives seem mired in conflict? How do we find connection when our differences are constantly on display and even exacerbated by algorithms and echo chambers? How do we build a kinder society?

If you are tired of the anxiety, frustration, and fear that pervade your connections with other people, both online and in real life, Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers want you to know one thing—you are not alone. In this book they will help you understand the powerful connections you have with other people on a personal, community-based, national, and even international level. Then they show you how to engage your family with a spirit of curiosity; listen closely to the anxieties and fears of your friends; explore shared values within your community; understand your work as a citizen in a diverse country; and hold lightly those things that are beyond your control around the world.

The status quo isn't working. If you long to be a peacemaker and a positive influence in your spheres, Now What? is your door to a future that is characterized by hope, love, and connection despite our differences.

All that I hoped for!

Sarah and Beth wrote (or in this case read) this book with their customary wisdom and grace. They discuss how to navigate our increasingly tricky world of politics and polarization. My favorite parts are the precious vignettes from their own lives. Whether you are a seasoned Pansuit Politics listener or have never heard of the podcast, I highly recommend this book! It's an honest and nuanced discussion of how to survive in a world that seems increasingly divided! Thanks for another great listen, Sarah and Beth!

Timeline, Balanced, and Wise

My husband and I listened to this book together on a road trip. First, I love that Sarah and Beth narrated their own writing, so it felt like the four of us were on the trip together. Then, the content of the book was fodder for such good conversation. While we hold similar views on so much, this book helped us to discuss topics on which we don't always agree. This also is incredibly helpful as we work in the Church and public education. Knowing how to discuss difficult topics is incredibly important in our everyday lives. This book was also helpful to us as parents of teenagers who are learning what it means to engage in politics especially in a school environment where many, if not most, of their classmates hold conflicting political views to our family. I am so thankful for Sarah and Beth and highly recommend this book.

Practical Advice

If you dan looking for a book that you can use for unavoidable political convos with friends or loved ones who have “banana” opinions, this book is for you. Although I bought both the Kindle and Audio versions, I particularly love the audio version because I got to hear my beloved Beth and Sarah voices.

They did it again!

Light enough to invite nuanced thought, deep enough to illustrate conflict and connection is inherently complex.
Well done to two of my favorite teachers.

Great book

I am a long time listener of their podcast and love their level headed, even and graceful tone. They not only explain politics but do it in a way that is like a calm in this crazy political storm!

A manual for moving beyond division

Thank you for your thoughtful and mind expanding information presented with grace. Every word provides greater insight to our own and other’s beliefs. It is relevant to today and I believe it will hold its value for generations to come. This is a wonderful followup to “I think you’re wrong (but I’m listening)”
