Publisher's summary

International best-selling phenomenon Mel Robbins has inspired millions to change their lives - and now she'll help you get ahead, get paid, and change your work life.

Women get mixed messages about how to succeed at work, and research shows that much of the career advice aimed at men doesn't even work for women. We’re left wondering: How do you say no without being labeled difficult? How do you get paid what you’re worth? What can you do when you start to doubt yourself? Should you go for that next big promotion, even though it’ll impact your family? What do you do when you’re feeling invisible and unappreciated?

Known for being 2018’s most-booked female speaker in the world and now a nationally-syndicated talk show host, Mel Robbins answers these questions and more with research-based strategies that you can put into action immediately. In this mix of one-on-one career coaching sessions and personal narrative, you’ll laugh, learn, and be inspired to get ahead at work - all while getting more enjoyment out of your life. No matter where you are professionally, Work It Out will give you the tools you need to create the career of your dreams.

Stuff ladies need to hear.

I love Mel, but I didn’t think it pertained to me because I’m right where I want to be in my work life.... but actually, in opening up with these beautiful people, I opened up too and saw things in myself that was there, but I wasn’t looking. I actually didn’t know to look there. Who knew? Mel. That’s who. ;) Give this one a listen.

Great Read for Any Woman of Any Age & Career Phase

As a woman going into my 40's in a well established career I occasionally try management or career 'self help' books to see if I can learn anything new but I normally don't like them. I often find 'self help' books to be too preachy about "thinking good thoughts" which I think is BS in real life. And most career focused books are told from a man's perspective and recommend "go after what you want" with lots of fiery language and unhelpful "just do it" recommendations. I find very little to take away, other then the same old lessons, and rarely do I find a book with worthwhile ACTIONABLE advice and steps (let alone something to change the way you think). This is why Mel Robbin's Work it Out, gets 5 glowing stars.

Just to clarify, this was my first experience with a book by Mel Robbins. I've never listened to her podcast, watched her show, or seen her speak... I actually didn't really know much about her. But this book had amazing reviews and I saw another review online saying how this was THE book for working women. So, I picked it up on-sale (2 for 1, I think) and decided to throw it on over the holidays while I worked on DIY projects around the house. From the first 10 min in I was absolutely blown away by how on-point and helpful this Audio book was, I will read this book again.

My situation may not have fit perfectly into the specific cases she spoke about (and had clients speak about) but I got something out of each and every one of them. While listening I laughed, cried (big heaping sobs!), cringed at realizations about myself, and overall found so much meaning. This wasn't just a self-help book for my career, but for my overall look at how I address my life and way forward.

The structure of the book was smartly done, she breaks down a specific challenge a client has and then walks us through it using references from her life and from the clients past. She refers back to the central idea that we're the same person from our personal lives to our work lives, so what ever foibles or insecurities we have will show up and affect both. This was a key message that really resonated with me and for my life.

Highly recommended for any woman, of any age, and in any phase of your career. There really was something for everyone of us in this book.

Love Mel Robbins!

Great book full of thoughtful insights! The one downside for me is that toward the end of the book it felt more like an autobiography about her path toward TV, and subsequently a commercial for her TV show. The majority of the book was great! Definitely worth listening to.

Wow! Where has Mel been all my life?

I don’t think I’ve ever read/listened to a book that made more of an impression on me or my life.

I’d hoped to listen to this during my commute and glean a few nuggets of wisdom, but I never expected that every segment, every story, every discussion would unpack more wisdom and knowledge that I truly needed to hear. This audiobook hit home for me in a way I never imagined possible.

Thank you so much, Mel, for your honesty, your candor, and your specific no-nonsense approach to how we, as women, should approach our lives, our relationships, and our work. I will be recommending this book to every single female friend I have.
