If this book is a standalone from the rest of the series, I would imagine the rest of them are just as good. I'm really trying not to put any spoilers in this review because it would be really easy. Here is a spoiler-free review of this story. Imagine if you had the love of your life and you knew somebody was going to kill them. Imagine all you had to do was sacrifice yourself and wake up in the human world from the mage world. Would you do it to save your true love? Reading this book you'll get an answer to the question and you'll get an answer as to what it's like to go from one world to the other world. This story has depth to it through the characters' stories which get even deeper before the end of the story. Each character storyline is interwoven with the other character storylines. It was a really good story which will keep you guessing until the end. I've never read anything by this author before and now I want to see what else they've written. Enjoy the story.

I am a huge fan of LJ Andrews so had to pick this up. I haven’t read any other books on this series but feel like I may have to try. I’m more into huge world building and this book as a stand alone just wasn’t enough. Maybe reading all of the books in this series will give me that. Andrews is brilliant with character interactions and banter. I wasn’t a huge fan of the female narrator for this but loved the two narrator POV.

I swear this author can take any plot and theme and create a world that completely engulfs your imagination and emotions. In fairness, the masterpiece could have been ruined if narrated improperly or by less talented people so credit needs to be added there as well. Honestly didnt want to stop listening and was sad when it was over. great read. would recommend.

Two hours into this book and I was already sad to know that it would end. I absolutely loved this story and the characters. I can’t say enough good things about this book.

This book left me more than a little eager to read the rest of the books in this series and to discover the other authors and their stories.

Despite the obvious possibilities of this single story evolving into a multiple book series on its own, I was more than satisfied with this novel. It has all my favorite characteristics - incredible worldbuilding, underpinning of an epic fantasy novel, and just enough spice to leave the reader gasping.

I really liked this book. It is a bit like the other fae romantasy books I've read lately, but overall, it is a great read. Both of the narrators are great.

Truly a story of the heart knowing what it desires even when the mind doesn’t know why! Following the journey of Adira and Kage was one that had my heart hurting, my mind confused and my fists pounding the table in rage. There’s magic, there’s incredible supporting characters and a life changing battle at the end. In true LJ form she captured my heart and kept my mind interested!

I spent WAY too much time trying to figure out where in the forgotten kingdom this was occurring and who exactly the characters were. I think it has been too many books in between, but I eventually gave up and decided to just enjoy this story for what it was....a stand alone. Then I discovered that this was one of a series of 8 books that were all written by 8 different authors.....

In this book, we are introduced to Adira, a woman raised in the human world who suddenly finds herself crossing through the veil and ending up in a world that she has only read about in books. She left Las Vegas and ends up in the Mage Kingdom. She then finds herself in the middle of a mess and she has no idea whether or not she has just lost her mind and gone crazy.

First, there is the maddening Prince who she finds herself attracted to even though she shouldn't be. Then there is the Crown Prince who tells her that she is going to save his kingdom - if only she could figure out how to unleash her magic. There is this prophecy you see.....

Anyway, I alternated between listening on audio and reading the ebook. I enjoyed the magic system, the world building, but most of all, I LOVED the group of friends that come together to help Adira.

Because....yep, you guessed it...all is not what it seems.....

I absolutely loved these characters! LJ Andrews is one of my favorite authors, and this book has all of the elements as to why. Andrews also picks the BEST narrators for her audiobooks. They give such fire to her words! I wish Cage and Wildling’s , and other lovable characters, stories spanned a series. Andrews builds such complex worlds and deep character connections, that it’s hard to not want more. 10/10 recommend.
