Repetitive but informative

A lot of similar stories that drill the main pts home…although many of the pts are repetitive.

Great book for parents of teens!

Let's be real, all teens have intense emotions and I thought this was a great book for any parent of teens! Like the DBT thinking processes introduced. Author and the reader did a great job!

Top of my recommendation list

This book is extremely practical, concise, validating and constructive. It is the first book my husband has ever agreed to read and appreciated as useful. It will complement anyone learning DBT skills for themselves or the family, as the focus is on acceptance while also pursuing changes, validating feelings but not behaviors, and prioritizing connection vs correction or control. I found especially valuable that it actually “goes there” to acknowledge what you are likely feeling and dealing with on serious issues like disordered eating, self harm, delinquency and affects on siblings. A lot of teen emotional dysregulation parenting self help books stop short of giving actual advice when things get real bad, and just say, “go consult a professional.” By articulating so many of the things I see, feel, and think daily, it made me feel seen and helped me believe that I’m not imagining how extreme my kid is, and also, I truly am doing the best I can even while I can improve.
