About this listen

The next audiobook in the epic fantasy series by USA Today bestselling author Scarlett St. Clair.

Isolde, newly coronated queen, has finally found a king worthy of her in the vampire Adrian. But their love for each other has cost Isolde her father and her homeland. With two opposing goddesses playing mortals and vampires like chess pieces against one another, Isolde is uncertain who her allies are in the vampire stronghold of Revekka.

Now, as politics in the Red Palace grow more underhanded and a deadly blood mist threatens all of Cordova, Isolde must trust in the bond she's formed with Adrian, even as she learns troubling information about his complicated past.

meh...

I struggled to listen to this. there is almost no character development, and as much as I like sex, there is very little story progression around too much sex. the male narrator is absolutely awful. isolde is written like an idiot that has no idea how to rule a court even tho in the last book she says her father had her attend courts and meeting and she planned to be a solo queen...and the end felt like everything just stopped in the middle of a thought. who won the battle? no idea. what happens with anna? no idea. did they stop the rouge vampire? who knows. then it picks up with a bonus chapter that is basically Christmas and everything is just dandy. so I'm just going to believe that sometime between the middle of isoldes thoughts and Christmas she exploded magic and fixed the universe, because I cannot bring myself to buy another book.

Good book

The male narrator is HORRIBLE. The writer describes the male lead and the narrator sounds like he's a stoner working as an evil assistant in a Disney movie. Such a let down and it's like nails on a chalkboard. I enjoyed the story and the female narrator was amazing.

Good, but the first book was better...

I would suggest that the two reders agree on the personality traits in the tone of voice prior to the read as this does effect the overall experience.

Good story and female narrator

Strong female main character. It was a nice change to have a female character who wanted power and to conquer territories and to be sexual. The ending was quite abrupt. Luckily, more is written from the female character’s point of view because the male narrator was so bad I considered not continuing.

I’m confused

So I really love the story, no question there. But the bonus chapter is confusing. So does this mean this is how it ends? What about the war? I’m sure that’s what the author wants, for people to have a bunch of questions - but I’m sad we have to wait so long for the third book.

Male voice is a buzz kill…Story line leaves you hanging yet again

I am sure Curt Bonnem does an excellent job with other books but in the case of a romance novel it feels like nails on a chalk board. I hated it when he did the bonus chapter on the last book. But my curiosity of what happened after the last book had me wanting this book more. Lilly Drake does an excellent job alone.
The story line never answered anything from the first book. And dropped off worse than the first book leaving you hanging. Unfortunately it was not in a way that I want more. I couldn’t wait for this book to be released. Now I wish I hadn’t wasted a credit getting it.

Lots more bedroom scenes and plot twists

This felt like the obligatory sophomore second book of a trilogy. At least I hope it will be.

Lots of well-written sex scenes still get repetitive after so many times.

There were a lot of twists and turns, and only time will tell if the story is trying to do too much to try to remain interesting.

There were several big moments and character revelations which made the book a solid contribution to the story and not just fluff. Not quite as good as the first one but still a good read.

Another win for Scarlett St. Clair

I got through this book within a day. I love her novels because they actually keep me interested in the story line, the characters and making predictions for the future. Now I have to work on my patience as I wait for the next book! Well done!
