Publisher's summary

Indy Savage is a former wild child (okay, maybe not so "former") and current used-bookstore owner. Lee Nightingale is a former bad boy and now runs a private investigation service. Toss together a quiet barista with a not-so-lawful side-business, a crazy Vietnam Vet, a pothead, a drag queen, family and friends who will not mind their own business, a few stun guns, and a bag of diamonds, and mix them all up with some shootings, a high-speed chase and car bombs exploding, then hang on for your first wild Rock Chick ride.

Alpha men, headstrong women and hilarious story

Where does Rock Chick rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is my favorite audio book ever! I actually love the whole series.

What other book might you compare Rock Chick to and why?

I can't think of another book to compare it too! This book was hilarious! I laughed and cried all through out this book and the rest of them in this series as well.

What does Susannah Jones bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is the best narrator ever! I love her voice and she does an excellent job of bringing the story to life! I already own this whole series in ebooks but now I am buying all of the audio books. Listening to Susannah Jones read these just made it seem that much more hilarious. I really hope she will narrate more of Kristen Ashley's books as well as other similar authors!

Any additional comments?

Kristen Ashley is an awesome author! She really knows how to make you laugh out loud. I love the tough, alpha men and the headstrong women with just the right amount of romance with heartfelt moments and lots of comedy too.

The Negative Reviews Are Right

I often use reviews as part of my book selection process and went ahead and obtained this book during an Audible sale despite many of the negative reviews.

This is one of those situations where the writing style is fine, the character development is adequate, and there's an overall story that isn't too bad. One of the main problems is the likability of the main characters. At first, I really appreciated listening to a romance with a female protagonist who wasn't in her 20s, but none of that mattered since her maturity and thought process matched that of a 14-year-old girl. I couldn't get invested into Indy as a person, her motivations, and extremely ego-centric way of making sense of the world. I'm baffled by her extreme likability/lovability for men other than she's attractive, and that's not anywhere near enough for me when listening to the romance genre. Then there's Lee who was too domineering and authoritarian. When done the right way, these qualities can be attractive in a male lead. Without the proper handling, you get stuck with a dictating ass with patriarchal tendencies who isn't very sexy after all.

The backstory to Indy and Lee could have been amazing, but it wasn't utilized more effectively, and the constant almost-there-but-nope-not-yet-gotcha! aspect of their romance got tedious.

I have no complaints about the narrator, and she seemed to properly emphasize Indy's supreme immaturity and idiocy.

This is worth a credit only for people who like far-out-there contemporary romances with main characters that aren't endearing, charming, or interesting.

What does Susannah Jones bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Loved the way Susannah Jones narrates the story. It seemed as if she were simple telling the story in real time. The flow was great.

Any additional comments?

The story was fun and fast moving. Very easy to listen too.

How old is this chick?

All through this funny book I kept wondering "How old is Indie?", the main character. She owns a business, so I'm guessing at least mid 20s but she acted more like an immature teenager. Kristen Ashley has great potential as a writer - her dialogue is very entertaining and she has a quirky sense of humor. However, this book lacked a believable romantic couple and did not develop any of the supporting cast beyond cartoon characterizations.

Rock Chick Book --- Rocked

I enjoyed this read and it kept my interest. I enjoyed being introduced to this new series but it reminded me a great deal of the Janet Evanovich books. The story lines seemed very similar but I always enjoy an entertaining book that keeps my interest and make me laugh.

Humor, Romance & Suspense

Although the story is formulaic it satisfied my desire for a lite read & overall I enjoyed it. I appreciated the fact that Ashley fully developed the relationship between
Indy & Lee telling a complete story without resorting to a cliffhanger.

Good audio, could have been better; but I liked it

I looove Kristen Ashley and I've read most of her published stories, including this entire series, but I gotta say the narration wasn't a favorite of mine. I like the narrator that did her Dream Man series. Wish they could have gotten her to read this one as well.

Susannah Jones wasn't horrible. She was actually pretty good. And I think I may have messed up by reading the book prior to getting this audio, because I already had an idea of how I wanted the story to flow and how the characters to sound in my head. But in all honesty she did do a respectable job.

All and all I enjoyed the story. If you liked the Dream Man series you'll look this one. Fast paced story; yummy alpha males; hilarious supporting characters; and the main characters are like magnets. They're likable the the heroine is feminine without being stupid or annoyingly weak.

I'd definitely recommend this story
