About this listen

The Galactics arrived with their Battle Fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Today, Battle Fleet 921 is returning to Earth. It hasn't been seen by human eyes since our blissful day of Annexation. But what should be a joyful occasion, a chance to grovel at the feet of superior lifeforms, is rapidly becoming a nightmare. Over the last century, humanity has engaged in many activities that our overlords find...questionable. A panic ensues, and Legion Varus is deployed to erase certain "mistakes" our government has made. Projects must be purged to stop Imperial military action. Among the thousands marching to war is one man no politician has ever enjoyed dealing with. One man who's destined to follow his own unique path through galactic law, morality and the stars themselves.

James McGill is about to make history.

Rogue World is the seventh book of Undying Mercenaries series, a novel of military science fiction by best-selling author B. V. Larson.

Still a good book but started to get redundant

I am still enjoying the series but it is starting to get really redundant and predictable. I am curious how many more of these are going to be made but the length of the books are starting to get shorter too which is disappointing as I really prefer a nice 13-15 hours

Same ole McGill! "Now hold on there!"

Repetitive? Well, yes. That's what we keep coming back for. We want to see McGill get into trouble and save the world. Again. And again. We don't listen for plot progression, but rather for personality, just as we watch Batman, CSI, Bonanza, or The Office. Nothing is going to change until the whole Magwa empire is overthrown. They are so unbending and draconian that their downfall is built into the system, just waiting for the implosion.

Rogue World is not Earth in rebellion, but rather a separate world of humanoid scientists caught doing illegal things! This is where the fighting and dying and reviving go on. McGill has been promoted over Harris (that was a little weird), and learns some of the hard truths about command. McGill still thinks of inventive ways to complete the missions, still gets in trouble with the Galactic law, and still weasels his way out of it while embroiling all of Earth in yet more wars.

But back on Earth, there is some forward progression with McGill's parents, as well as with his daughter Etta. Della makes a mere cameo appearance here, but Anne Grant can still be swayed by McGill's charms, and so can a new recruit. Something will happen with those relationships in the next volumes as humans continue fighting the Magwa's dominated species.

Mark Boyett IS the voice of McGill. But he also gives full life to all the characters, Graves, Harris, Carlos, Kivi, Turov, even the Squids and the Magwa. He brings out all the humor and frustration, ever a pleasure to listen to.

One of the best series to listen too

This latest book 7 from this series is just as great as the rest of them. There wasn't much I disliked regarding book 7. Mark Boyett does an amazing job narrating this one just like the rest of them. Each character is well fitted with their individual voices and he does a fantastic job doing so. If you've read the previous books in this series, you shouldn't waste time and get this one as well. Too bad it took over a year for this one to come out.

Undying Fun!

This series has become a staple in my daily routine. The stories and the narration are terrific, and the "undying" concept is truly unique. I love this series. Seems like it could potentially go one forever, which would be fine by me. :-)

Different Plot

Although I have read all seven books, I am still ready for more. James, the main character, was at his finest in this story. The plot had many twists and turns; leaving me anxious for book eight. Keep up the good work B.V.!

some of it is a little contrived but overall a fun story. wiggling under the thumb of oppression.
a few plot holes I think. nice pulls out of crushing defeat. I liked it.
