GREAT!!!

Fantastic as always. Full of non-stop action! This narrator isn't as good as the previous, but it's still very enjoyable.

Wizards.Magic.Adventure. Who could ask for more?

This is the first of Trevor Cooley’s books that I’ve listened to (or read) and am hooked! So much so that it replaced my regular playlist on my run so I wouldn’t have to wait to continue the journey. Sir Edge takes you on a thrilling adventure, encountering his crew of bonded characters (i.e. the good guys :)), foes and setbacks, while the pieces to the Dark Prophet’s return slowly come together.

T.J. Clark’s narration brings the characters to life! Each one has an amazingly distinct voice and manner of speaking - their personalities can be heard loud and clear - especially that of my favorite, Lenny (sp?). You’ll know what I mean when he joins the journey! Cooley’s dialogue and banter between Sir Edge’s troop is expertly voiced putting you amidst this group that has a great bond even with their individual oddities. There were multiple times where I was that weirdo laughing out loud to myself or gasping the first time I heard Deathclaw’s voice or wanting to yell at the characters to not do what they’re about to do!

As a newbie to Cooley’s world I felt like there was enough back story and detail given to understand the magic and relationships between characters. I want to listen or read all the previous series now for sure, but it’s not necessary if you just want to jump in to this one!

Good Things To Say

First the story. Honestly, it was hard to jump right into Sir Edge not having read The Bowl of Souls series. I found the fast paced re-cap hard to keep up with. However, the re-cap is jammed with themes that are not to be missed. In addition to the re-cap, Cooley does an interesting job of creating this world complete with its many characters, weapons that are linked with magic and friends that bonded for better or life. Now I know how it can be when you to get used to a special narrator creating characters voices and images in your head. Then along comes TJ Clark to read Sir Edge. Clark brings The Dark Prophet Saga to life. That's probably the highest praise for an audio book performance. But I invested this actors performance and I listened to Clark interpretation verses the other two narrators that Cooley used in his earlier books. Clark's diction and emphasis mimics theirs somewhat but with Clark I hear more acting in Clark's narrative voice and I hear a more gravely dwarf. There are a lot of characters in this story and lots of voices are heard. I think Cooley made a good choice with Clark. In fact I'm not sure start the series or listen again?

New narrator

This book is very well written. As everyone would recognise the narrative is done by a new person. The way I coped with the change in voices from the first of the books is to picture everyone’s voices had changed because this book is set about 15 to 20 years in the future. Apart from the voice change I enjoyed this just as much as the rest of the series

good.

Trevor has definitely improved a lot. New narrator is better in some places, and worse in others. Fists old voice is the only one I really miss. This series has still got it.

Truly a Tragedy (keep reading)

Trevor H. Cooley has captivated me since the beginning of the series at Eye of the Moon Rat, He has spun a world with characters so wonderful and imaginative, and a plot that pulls you along throughout the series and keeps you constantly wanting just a little more all while being completely satisfied with the development. Which brings us to this tragedy...

Trevor H. Cooley has continued the greatness in this new saga. Truly an amazing work even with the change of narrator...
And NOBODY seems to know that it is even here. I have blazed through all his books, and this didn't even pop up in my recommendations!!!!

Trevor has disclosed already that the change of the narrator was due to his last few books not performing as well, and I can only assume it is because nobody knows that it's here, because everything else is as solid as a rock giant with a magic necklace. So PLEASE do the author a favor.

Narrator change mid series

Don’t recommend switching narrators, wasn’t bad if I had not heard the characters voices so far in another voice.

Listen to the preview before purchase

First of all, this is my favorite series-of all time. I have never been so deep in a story before, every single new addition has me replaying the entire journey. My husband, kids, and I all talk about the characters as if they are old friends, we listen together and LOVED the old narrator. Mr. Clark is not by any means a bad narrator, but after investing so much time listening to different voices it is just not the same. As always, Mr. Cooley outdid himself and it is still a great read, just hard to get around the new voice.

Really enjoyed it!

I was really excited to see this book up after listening to Tallow Jones: Blood Trail. Trevor has built a really vivid world here with great characters and I think TJ does a really amazing job with it. His voices are really clear and unique and he does a great job hitting the perfect tone for the story. I can't wait to see how the rest of the Dark Prophet Saga turns out!

Why change narrators?

This narrator made you feel he was just reading. The previous books in this series much better. You get used to characters voices, don’t change in middle of series.
