Publisher's summary

Skinny Bitch created a movement when it exposed the horrors of the food industry and inspired people across the world to stop eating “crap." The authors followed that New York Times bestseller with a cookbook. And the "bitches" are back yet again—this time with advice to pregnant women. And just because their audience is in a "delicate condition" doesn't mean they deliver a gentle message. With the same sassy tone that made Skinny Bitch laugh-out-loud funny, Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin give expectant moms the information they need to use their heads and maintain a healthy pregnancy.

Harsh but truly vital info

I wrongly purchase this audio book thinking it was "skinny bitch" for *not*pregnant ppl (audible website fault...and was thinking to ask for refund coz I thought this book was useless to me since I'm single and not pregnant.
But after hearing a few chapters, I truly think it contains very vital information and you can tell that the authors did a lot of research to build up this book.
I respect the effort of the authors and their sincere intentions not to present just another book for pregnancy nutrition and cash some money, but to educate all pregnant and not pregnant ppl even if the contents or the presentation is a little bit rude, but it's like someone you know is advising you from the heart.

The only thing I didn't like that much is chapter 6 and 7 of the audiobook, where they describe too into detail how animals are slaughter, it made me nauseous just by hearing... well, that's also the awful truth of the meat industry, for why I decided to be vegetarian from now on.

AKA How to be a Vegan

I was skeptical at first because of the title of this book and some of the language can get annoying. Like they are trying too hard to be edgy. This book reminded me a little of In Defense of Food but I have to say that after reading it I want to be more of a vegetarian and think twice when I eat beef. They are a bit graphic when it comes to the treatment of animals but it did influence me to want to eat less animal products. I also liked how they teach you other ways to get all of the vitamins you need and to be very healthy.

Overall a good book but I didn't learn so much about pregnancy yet eating healthy food does relate.

Truth

Listening to this book made me feel like I was in church. I was like, "Amen" every other sentence. This is a very truthful book with science and facts.

Advice with a no nonsense attitude

This book is great for telling it like it is. If you want to know about how to become vegan or just eat better for you and baby this book tells you straight to the point with no reading between the lines kinda stuff.

Very similar to the original book

Very similar to the first book, I wish it was more pregnancy information instead of adding the same information about the graphic cruelty that takes place in animal agriculture. I already bought the first one, and read it, so I was hoping for less of the same book more information I need now that I am expecting. Respectfully, the Ghandi quote at the conclusion seems out of place for this book due to all the f bombs and b words. I even thought to myself “this B…. Actually used Ghandi” lol

not only about pregnancy

I oved the most the part about breastfeading, there I found information I was not aware. They touch also on formula, soy milk and other milks.
The narator is great, the voice is totally suiting for the text.
The book is an informative approach to living a plant based live. It also talks on the mother and child bounding.

Corrected Title: Your Vegan Pregnancy

Would you try another book from Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin and/or Gwendoline Yeo?

Probably not. Gwendoline Yeo's narration was excellent though.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The book was more focused on pushing vegan and vegetarian lifestyles as well as the graphic horrors of slaughterhouses and animal abuse. As a pregnant woman looking for nutritional advice for me and my baby, this rhetoric was over-the-top. I'm aware of the problems of our food industry and government. That's NOT why I picked up this book.

What does Gwendoline Yeo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Conveying the sassy tone and attitude behind the writing.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

They already made this book into a movie... it's called Food, Inc.

Informative, but a soap box

There is some good information in this book and I also liked the style in which it was presented. However, the authors really like to get on their soap box when it comes to certain issues. I'm not saying their opinions are wrong, but I didn't buy this book to hear long rants about aspartame and the dairy industry.
