I've enjoyed the series and really enjoy that the author makes a complete story for each book. SO MANY authors write tiny little 6 to 8 hour books that start and end on cliff hangers, I really hate it. let the quality of your writing bring people back instead of stupid blatant manipulation. This series has good books that tell a whole story and (gasp) actually move the plot along in meaningful ways! I love it!
overall I would give the series an 8 out of 10, wishing mostly that a better audible narrator had been chosen. I'm getting a little spoiled because the narrator isnt "bad" but I am starting to really enjoy the audio books with both a male and female voice actor to really give that extra distinction to each voice. Even the best male voice actors only do passable female voices and vice-versa. The quality of the narration definitly affects the overall feel of the book.
the other reason I'd go 8 of 10 is because while the story is pretty good it's not epic. it's enjoyable, and I would recommend the series, but it's not...super memorable (pardon the pun). The difference between stories would best be described on a 100 point scale with 20 different attributes ranked from 1 to 100. Trying to rate a book on a 5 star scale REALLY oversimplifies the rating down to how you felt after reading the story. If I had to try and put my finger on exactly why the story wasn't memorable (for lack of a more accurate term) it would be two things. First, there's little humor in the book and all really great stories imho should have some great humor. Be that an amazing 1 liner that you never forget, or a pun that literally makes you laugh so hard you have to put the book down a second to catch your breath. The second thing it's lacking is...hard to describe probably because I'm no author (I'm sure a really good author could articulate it better). In Harry Potter it was...the little things that you could relate to that would cause you to identify with the story and...passionately identify with either a character, a situation, or an idea. This series, while enjoyable to read...doesn't have much of that in book 2 and 3 (first book did better).
Anyways, thanks for the enjoyable read! I really appreciate the few authors out there that focus on telling good stories and not on making political statements, being PC, and pushing agenda's. Keep up the good work and try to find a way to get the reader to immerse themselves or related more to the characters.
Another great addition to the series!
