About this listen
Our willpower is limited, yet we rely on it every day to get our tasks done. Even if we build willpower slowly over time, it's never enough to reach all of our goals. The solution lies in habit creation, the method by which we transform hard tasks into easy ones, making them automatic and independent of our will power. Each of us has millions of habits, in how we do our work, interact with others, perceive the world, and think about ourselves. Left unexamined, these habits are just as likely to hinder our progress as they are to push it along. Without a deliberate system for building habits, we become our own worst enemy.
Superhuman by Habit examines habit building in depth. It covers the principles and philosophies of habit building, as well as the practical nuts and bolts implementing those habits. The second half of the audiobook is dedicated to specific habits in every major area of life, covering the pros and cons of each, the path to implementing them, and specific notes about each one.

Story
One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Story
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

It has been read by countless people over the centuries because of its sensibility and its easy application to daily living. Unlike some of his forefathers in philosophy, like Plato and Aristotle, he focuses on how to practically apply oneself on a philosophical level.

Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt. Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

Some Gold Nuggets But Very Distracting
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Had some good ideas but might be better to read the actual book as the performance was distracting.
How could the performance have been better?
There were weird cuts where the author/narrator messed up and didn't even finish the sentence. He also wasn't the best performer. It sounded like it was read in the guys basement with not great equipment (which I kinda suspect is the cast). For me it was quite distracting in trying to soak up the info.

Straightforward and Relatable
Very good advice was given. My favorite parts were understanding that habits use up less of your willpower and that triggers can form both good and bad habits, so create triggers for the good ones. I look forward to listening again.

Superb
If I had to explain this book in a single sentence I would say that it is "Get Rich Slowly for life, in general".
Tynan lays out practical approaches to overcoming huge life hurdles via adding or removing one small habit at a time. His section on chaining one habit to another is also particularly useful.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has come to realize that the habits they currently have are not yielding the desired results.

Reads like a self-published e-book
I really liked the concepts in this book, and it's nice that the author spells out exact examples of how to implement them. I can also appreciate that the author is narrating his own book, and that is the only reason I gave the performance 2 stars instead of 1. Authors are not the same as performers, and so when an author narrates their own book, mistakes are more acceptable because they are really writers, not narrators. Bad narration can be made up for by good editing, but this book doesn't have good editing. At one point you can even hear the narrator ask himself how to say a word. This audio book is cheap and it's obvious when you are listening to it. But I guess you get what you pay for.
