About this listen

You're not broken, weak, or faulty because you binge on food. You're normal and, more importantly, you can fully recover. Let me explain...powerful binge cravings are a natural and normal side effect of food restriction. If you've ever restricted your food intake in your past (e.g. a diet, a detox program, cutting out carbs, etc.), then you may have triggered a primitive natural survival mechanism we call "primal hunger". This leads to powerful binge urges, an insatiable appetite, food obsession, depression, and anxiety. Your body thinks you're in the middle of a famine, and it's doing everything it can to make you eat lots of food. By purging your food, you remain malnourished, and your body is stuck in "primal hunger" mode.

Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with your upbringing, personality, or emotional state. This may come as a surprise, but studies show us that many of the symptoms that might have been thought to be specific to bulimia nervosa are actually the results of starvation (Pirke & Ploog, 1987). Chances are, you're perfectly normal and are just experiencing the natural and very normal side effects of a restrictive diet.

We don't ask you to analyze your painful past experiences or to examine any personality "flaws" that may have led to your bulimia, as there is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that resolving underlying psychological problems leads to recovery (Walsh & Cameron, 2005). Instead, we give you clear, practical steps to remove your primal hunger, stop bingeing and purging, relearn normal eating, and overcome bulimia for life. You can recover. There is a way.

This book will help you:

  • Make sense of your bulimia (because believe it or not, bulimia doesn't have to be confusing!)
  • Recover at a pace that suits you by following our step-by-step guide to recovery
  • Eliminate binge urges and cravings for life by restoring your body's own natural food regulation system

I would be lost without this book.

I've been listening to this book for a few weeks now, night and day. I feel like this has helped me so much with kickstarting my recovery. After 5 months of amenorrhea due to my ED I finally got my period back. I'm slowly but surely getting my life back. Food is finally not a top priority and my binging episodes have decreased dramatically. I can finally live and breathe. I'm so happy I found this book. So thankful!

Amazingly Helpful

This book TRULY made a difference in my life. I have read many books about eating disorders and none have made more sense to me and or have given me concrete reasons and tools that I use 💕

This may have just saved my life. Not just the “being alive” part. But my living life.

I absolutely recommend this book to not only those going through bulimia, but those that need to understand their loved ones with this affliction. This book is amazing. Richard and Ali are amazing.

The missing link

I found this book after listening to a you tube video with the author and Kathryn Hansen who wrote "Brain over Binge" I feel like this book tied everything together for me and I have not had a binge in many many weeks. About 6 weeks at this writing. That is the longest I have gone not binge eating for 44 years. It is a wonderful easy to listen to book. It is read by the author. He has a very nice voice and accent. I highly recommend this book.

What a blessing

I have been struggling on and off with bulimia and overeating and over exercising for 14 years... i always thought there was something wrong with me mentally and I thought I would never get over this issue. For the first time in my life, after listening to this book, it feels so good to know that it’s not just a mental issue that needs sorting out but that I’m malnourished. It just made sense... something clicked... I had an aha moments. I’m so grateful that I made this purchase. Thank you to the authors whom I am so grateful for

If you’ve ever misused food - you need this book!

I’d been convinced, after 30+ years of first anorexia, then bulimia - that this was just going to be my way of life. I had every degree & certification to support the knowledge of how to correct this, but to no avail. I was under the assumption I had a compulsive disorder that had evolved into a daily habit, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and just a huge mess that could never be fixed. I felt like a hippocrit & a liar for pretending to be healthy & balanced, although so far from it. This self loathing perpetuated the misuse.of food.
Finding this book was like flipping a switch - far different from anything I’d heard, but it made perfect sense!!
Thankfully recovering & hopeful for many more years ahead to help & share with others. Thank you so much for this lifeline

Helped me accept myself & food

I have binged and purged for over 40 yrs and now finally accept myself and my fear of food. I am working through the love/hate relationship with food by using the tools of accept, delay, distract. I am so thankful! - Donna S

Great practical resource for real recovery.

I really liked the focus on structured eating leading to intuitive eating. It is a step by step resource that leads you to recovery.

If you need to understand dealing w emotional eating? I recommend "End Emotional Eating". This helps us to sit with out uncomfortable feelings instead of eating. And "Brain Over Binge Workbook" is a great resource to really heal your brain and say no binge urges.

Please please please try this

I have suffered from bulimia since The age of 14 years and 8 am now 35years old. I don't even want to say how lo g it's been. This is the only book that has helped me in the most compassionate way ever. I am beginning to care for myself and I know now that recovery isn't instant but it sure is progressive. Thank you Mr and Mrs Kerr.
