About this listen

To do list for the post apocalypse:

1. Survive the orcs rampaging through your city.2. Survive the pod trying to steal your mind.3. Pull off the greatest heist of all time.

Eric was as shocked as everyone else when the apocalypse struck, but unlike his mother's movie, there were no chosen heroes destined to fight the beast hordes now overrunning the planet.

Just people trying desperately to survive.

Yet there was a glimmer of hope that humanity could hold on to. A chosen few really could level up in this brave new world, and embrace magic, adventure, and the potential for limitless power!

But the only way to find out if you were one of the lucky few who can level-up and grow stronger was to dare alien vegetative pods. Pods as happy to turn you into topsoil as give you any shot at mastering a System designed to benefit elite invaders, not fragile humans just trying to survive.

But Eric was all about beating the odds!

Along with a handful of new friends who happened to be rogues long before there was any System.

Friends absolutely intent on stealing a priceless fortune that their enemies are eager to claim, right out from under the noses of everyone trying to kill them!

Eric might not be able to save the world, but nothing says he can't make a killing! All he has to do is outmaneuver a thousand orcs, outfox an army of too-clever elves, and escape a war-torn city without getting caught!

Eager for a fast-paced adventure with a survivor determined to get the best of everyone trying to kill him and make a fortune while doing so? Then prepare to be blown away by some of the best voice actors in the business!

Fun adventure with plenty of growth

Love the adventure and world building. Great revenge tale with many battles and training sessions.

Great but could use WAAAAAYYYY less whine...

This has a great premise. I love the character development. The system is a cool take compared to other of the same genre.

The only complaint is the 10s of minutes of whining.... The whining over the haves and have nots. Ok I agree as a have not I can relate but man 10 minute stints of prose of saying the same thing over and over again... by god... just stfu. Life is never fair.... just grit bare and move on.

Oh another small pet peeve is his Simpfest towards Alice and even Sue (he gets laid once and he is crying because this that or the other.... sigh)

The narrators are AMAZING

The book is written well with detail and explanation. THE NARRATOR IS AMAZING. He has a amazing voice perfect for the male characters. Morlecai (I def spelled it wrong) truly feels mysterious. DIFFERENT people with different personalities he brings them to life. The female narrator is equally impressive adding enough emotion and feeling in her lines to make them feel human like they’re basically living it.

Good story!

Fast paced repeats some things over and over in different ways but i guess its the writers style. Worth the credit and some.

Good

Narrator is a little over the top. Over powered MC… but still good. Very good length.

Good narrator, story drags on

Narrator does a great job of getting you pumped up every fight. But the story drags on and on filled with to much fluff. The MC repeats himself all the time to his companions and explains everything he does in so much unnecessary detail that you wonder why his companions haven't told him to shut up yet. Cut the fluff out and it would have been a decent listen.

Average isn’t bad!

My thoughts:
Besides the subtle ‘LGB undertones’ and the ‘grooming agenda’ that seems to be a plague on the upcoming generations of young adults. This book wasn’t bad, and I enjoyed the length.
I definitely think it’s worth the listen, especially if you have about 400 fantasy (primarily LITRPG/Progressive) titles like I have.
It can be really frustrating to find that next best series (this probably isn’t it) and this book will do a fine job providing a distraction from that search.

The Performance:
First time giving this performer a try, and overall I say he has great potential. He has good pacing and a rich powerful voice that draws your attention.
What turned me off the most was that even mundane thoughts or tasks by the protagonist felt like it was turned into a ‘harrowing experience’ with how the performer changed pitch and tone. Every little action the protagonist preformed seemed to have great gravitas.

The story:
I felt connected to the world which for me is a must have in any book series I decide to continue. It has a decent overall story ark, and I will be purchasing the next volume as long as the subtle ‘LGB undertones’ stays out of the story. There is no reason to bring politics and radical views into young adult literature.
My peace being said, I would not be able to offer any literature improvements to this.
I think the author did a wonderful job on this book.

Conclusion:
Give it a try! Especially if you been searching for a new series for a while.

weird convenient necromancy / narrator is a lot

Adding personality to the characters is great, however the male narrator overdoes it to the point that I think it ruins the characters. Especially around combat - makes the main MC seem more edgelord than I think he is intended to be. Female narrator is good. If you like overpowered MCs with convenient morality for their decisions then this is a book for you. Story is drawn out and repetitive in development. Author uses the same descriptors within the same breath which is - frustrating. Spoilers:

MC is a dark hero is who uses necromancy. Which already isn't my favorite however things fall into his lap extremely conveniently. MC tries thing - omg he is a prodigy. MC trains. MC trains. MC trains. Congratulations MC can now kill w.e he wants because he wants to. He eats orcs. I don't love it when people eat sentient beings but it's w.e. Author brings up harem creation by other humans and sex slaves (some of whom are children) and it's a little ick. Females are pretty much always sexualized when described.. Anyways - I think it needs to be your cup of tea and it's not mine. if there is a second one I will 95% chance not be reading it.

It was very enjoyable!

I love this book and can’t wait for more ! He is ruthless, but still has humanity, which I feel like is very important in these books so I’m excited for the next book! Also, the readers does an excellent job of reading if you like the other series he does you’ll love this one, but I’m just missing the fox God!
