About this listen

The New York Times bestselling author of The XX Brain shows women how to navigate menopause successfully and come out the other side with an even better brain.

Menopause and perimenopause are still a black box to most doctors, leaving patients exasperated as they grapple with symptoms ranging from hot flashes to insomnia to brain fog. As a leading neuroscientist and women’s brain health specialist, Dr. Mosconi unravels these mysteries by revealing how menopause doesn’t just impact the ovaries—it’s a hormonal show in which the brain takes center stage.

The decline of the hormone estrogen during menopause influences everything from body temperature to mood to memory, potentially paving the way for cognitive decline later in life. To conquer these challenges successfully, Dr. Mosconi brings us the latest approaches—explaining the role of cutting-edge hormone replacement therapies like “designer estrogens,” hormonal contraception, and key lifestyle changes encompassing diet, exercise, self-care, and self-talk.

Best of all, Dr. Mosconi dispels the myth that menopause signifies an end, demonstrating that it’s actually a transition. Contrary to popular belief, if we know how to take care of ourselves during menopause, we can emerge with a renewed, enhanced brain—ushering in a meaningful and vibrant new chapter of life.

Wish this book had come out a decade earlier! Highly recommend!

I wish this book had come out 10 years earlier. There’s so much helpful information that I wish I’d had access to when I was in perimenopause. This book is a must for anyone born female. If you’re 40-55 read this book. This is the menopause. Are you there God? It’s me Margaret book that everyone has been seeking.

Great book!

This book is an excellent read, very informative. It should be required reading for all females starting from the teen years. This should also be required readings for every med student, especially males! The female brain has not been researched extensively as pointed out by Lisa. Her research is ground breaking and I hope and pray she continues her research to help more women and get the attention of the medical community!

Ame este libro

Me encantó toda la información. Es muy clara, basada en ciencia, también la combinación de los datos científicos junto con la calidez humana con la que lo expresa y lo comparte.

key takeaway

science and ethics based information that is humanized and women are humanized and the recognition of our health needs and the historically ignorance of it most importantly, the brain is transforming so it works better later and women need not automatically think this is the end of our mental capacity....quite the opposite. It's defragging.

A MUST READ for all Women!

I’ve read several books on menopause, but this book’s focus on the impact on the brain is great! The complicated interplay that occurs between our brain, hormones, metabolic / gut health, etc., was explained nicely and easy to understand. Women will be empowered with information that will help them make decisions that best meets their needs and personal choices. I listened and bought a hard copy of the book.
