About this listen

School’s out for summer, and that means one thing to Parker, Chloe, and their four friends: a well-deserved camping trip in the Pine Barrens, a million-acre forest deep in the heart of New Jersey. But when old grudges erupt, an argument escalates into the unthinkable, leaving one of them dead and the killer missing. As darkness descends and those left alive try to determine a course of action, the forest around them begins to change....

In the morning, more of the group has vanished and the path that led them into the woods is gone - as if consumed by the forest itself. Lost and hungry, the remaining friends set out to find help, only to realize that the forest seems to have other plans - a darker, ancient horror lies dead and dreaming in a lake in the center of the woods. And it’s calling to them.

Meanwhile, deep in the trees, the killer is still at large, and one of the group’s own has started to transform and warp into something other. Something inhuman. Something that wants to feast.

Banding together to survive, the friends soon begin to understand the true nature of the horror waiting for them in the Pine Barrens - and that not all of them will make it out alive.

I liked the story and I really liked the lovecraft influence and horror aspects. However, it really has a more slow pace and more than a few loose ends.

Good but not really great

Wasn’t good and wasn’t bad. The story lost me a few times and it didn’t really explain much about what was going on.

Just okay…

very atmospheric, emotionally detailed and full of visceral horror. verging on Lovecraftian. Would love to see a sequel or something of the sort.

Not enough victims, great otherwise.

I loved this book. I’ve recommended it to many friends who liked it as well. Story is fast paced, good mix of suspense, action, and mystery added to the horror. I’m a sucker for both ancient evil and body horror so this was an extremely enthralling read for me. Highly recommend.

Original, Fast Paced, ancient evil , body horror

The Night Will Find Us is one of the best horror novels I've read this year. Matthew Lyons creates his own nightmare world in the Pine Barrons of New Jersey. A group of young campers discover the monsters of this forest when one of the campers commits murder among his friends, an act that triggers the evil that dwells within the big woods.

The writing is of the quality of horror greats like Andy Davidson and Nick Cutter. Don't miss out on this killer novel of terror.

While it was decent overall, I found myself just thinking what is the actual point? Is literally everyone going to die and that's just all? Gory detail after gory detail got to be a bit too much and way overdone at times. Just as I was thinking that the book was wrapping up and somehow I had listened to over 10 hours of audio, I look down to see how much time was remaining, there was still five hours left. So I'm thinking to myself there is no way there are still five hours left. What in the world could this author possibly write about where 5 more hours was still needed? I was ready to just call it quits and pretend that everyone died and that was it. But, I pressed on.

With that being said, I must add that the way the last hour or so tied the whole book together was nice. It helped make sense of some of the confusion I had throughout the book. The significance of the tree changing in meaning was definitely a nice touch that I enjoyed. Last note, the readers "girl" voice literally made me laugh out loud at times. He did an amazing job with expressing the overall feel and emotions that were present. His voice didn't lull me to sleep, which is always a plus!

Not my favorite, but was decent enough

There's not much more to say because this book is hard to even remember. This is a book and a story you've probably read 100s of times before. Its interesting enough to finish but you'll completely forget it exists as soon as its done. Also, not scary at all.

Completely Forgettable
