About this listen

After narrowly surviving an assassination attempt by a ninja, Nyle Maxwell (Winter) learns of a new ninja guild on the block. Its goal is to conquer all of Adventure City and force player and NPC alike to bow to their master's rule. Such an event threatens to spark a war between the two biggest ninja guilds in the city, a war that will tear the city itself apart.

Things get worse when Nyle gets infected with a deadly virus that will turn him into a mindless zombie in three days' time. Now, Nyle must stop the coming ninja war and find a cure for his virus before it's too late.

But how do you cure an incurable virus?

So many errors in Audio book

I really want to give 5 stars but this book was not proof read. Example at 5:58:00 roughly hero Just leveled up Hero sense then when reviewing after his sheet it says he needs two points to level it up. When it should be 10.

This is just one example. In the beginning of the book mc says he has not leveled up since the last book then a bit later says he just leveled up that morning then a bit later says again has not leveled up in a while but should be close now.

Spoilers ahead

When he first gets the Z virus it says 73 hr 59 min. But after enabling kids mode he says it was extended out to three days.

Lots of things like this that if you focus on details or like leveling aspects will bother you. This was not proof read at all. Narrator should of caught some of this at least

Really great LITRPG novel

So imagine being part of a program that uploads your mind into a massive multiplayer online role playing game. Where other people just login and play the game you are in it forever, for you the game is a reality while for others it’s just a way to escape reality for a bit...however, you aren’t the only one fully uploaded into the system...there are others here part of the same program, and one who isn’t. There’s one person in here that’s a rogue entity that nobody knows how he’s gotten in and he is here to bring this world to its knees...he almost succeeded in book one aiding an NPC who locked the players into the game and tortured them causing massive damage to the games reputation in the real world resulting in ptsd for many and lawsuits that threaten the world being shut down....now a new plot is launched...can our hero fix this new issue before the program is shit down and his life is ended? Listen and find out. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Excellent 2nd Book in the Series!!!!

The Player Plague: A Superhero LitRPG Adventure Capes Online, Book 2 written by Lucas Flint. Audiobook narration is provided by Joe Hempel. This is another excellent second volume in the series. This time our hero Winter aka Nyle Maxwell starts the story out waking just in time avoiding an assignation attempt by the ninja guild. Catching the daughter of the Grandmaster he is given a mission to help them stop a rival guild. He will gain favor with the guild, get the assignation called off, and sweet new ninja gear for himself.

What could go wrong? Well, being Adventure City many things. But World Ending events are what Winter and Cyclone deal with each week so far right? Besides, that annoying zombie virus will only kill him in three days. Getting locked into Kids Mode can’t be that bad right? This second book in the series holds the listener's attention well. I was laughing out loud several times. The whole kid’s mode thing just killed me. I could not properly curse for a few days afterward.

The narration by Mr. Hempel was just amazing. The way he brings out the frustration in Nyle’s voice in dealing with Cy is just perfect. The perfect put upon tone when trying to explain he does not have a fetish is pure comic gold. The production quality of this audiobook is also of the highest quality. I heard no problems during the entire performance. There were not any detectable flaws that I was able to hear during the entire performance such as loops, breaks, or buzzing. The production was crisp and clear. Secret Identity Books delivered excellent audiobook production. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another good one!

Really good, actually. I liked the depth the theme of NPC morality added to this one. A good story with a long, suspenseful climax. And some good loot too!

As always, Joe Hempel was perfect. Look forward to the next one!

Zombie apocalypse!

This book, like the first in the series, was so much fun! The pace seemed to clip along faster than the first book--probably because we know the game mechanics now and those didn't need to be explained much along the way. This book took a different tactic with Winter engaging much more fully with the game, taking on a lot of missions, and generally getting in over his head, which made for some epic battle scenes as it went on. Also, zombies! That was a lot of fun to see zombies and superheroes and LitRPG all mashed together. And ninjas! Don't forget ninjas.

We got to see a lot more of Cy's personality here, and while I liked him enough in the first book, I grew to really love him as a character here. And the threads of conspiracy from the first book are furthered here as well, though of course not everything is answered--there are more books to come, after all!

The only thing I didn't really like were some of the fight scenes were shockingly gross. I found myself closing my eyes sometimes (which doesn't make much sense with reading an audiobook, alas), and skipping ahead 30 seconds, which usually did the trick. If you're in any way squeamish, be aware that there are some gory parts, though not too many.

The narration was stellar, as with the first book. I hope this narrator continues the series! I think he handles the LitRPG elements particularly well.

Overall, a wonderfully run ride!

Good listen

A fine addition to this series, somewhat better than the first book, though it still has that slightly corny quality, I believe the listener will still enjoy it.
