Publisher's summary

After the failure in Straken, Otto is forced to accept that as long as Garenland’s enemies can send reinforcements through the portals, the Northern Army has no hope of taking Marduke. But Otto has a plan: Seize control of the portals, and turn the enemy’s strength against them.

To accomplish this seemingly impossible goal, Garenland’s top spies are dispatched to place magical patches on the portals in every capital. Behind enemy lines and on their own, it will be a miracle if the spies can survive, much less complete their missions.

Five men will determine Garenland’s future. Can they complete the mission, or with they die trying?

Thrilling story

loved the story and otto shank is my favorite character. the way he's handled everything from his father and the cheating wife has shaped him into a man that I truly admire.

Great scenic route of book

Most of this book is multiple subplots with new characters from the royal army that lead back to the main story, I enjoyed all of the new characters and each plot didnt feel like it overstayed its welcome(one of the plot/characters i actually wished was stretched a bit more, hopefully it/they comes back up later)

And as always the climax was done well, always suspenseful of what's to come.

Still going strong

The book content is great. Sometimes the narrator voices are hard to distinguish who is supposed to be talking at any given part of the conversation.

Very fun

I like the story. There is plenty of adventure and the progression is believable. Immersion is solid and makes for a lot of fun for fans for magic. I didn't hear the stutters or gaps like some of the reviews claimed. It is a good story and I have heard every book in this series so enjoy. I await the next book to see what happens.

Great but...

I love this series so far and it’s been a ride but y didn’t one of are main characters use the blood magic to hunt down the prince like it would of been so simple to do so but he just ignores it you know something bads going to happen cause of it leading to him having to deal with it anyways most likely lol but other than that I have no other problems with this book

Not bad but not great.

It is not a poorly written book but I find the dialogue to be unbelievable for any given situation in the book. In a battle scene, articulation is not appropriate. The main character really isn't that likable. The story itself is interesting but not necessarily original. Overall, I do not hate it, I just have trouble really getting into it.
