Publisher's summary

Dr. Neal Barnard’s new diet and plan offers an evidenced-based, food-as-medicine protocol for kickstarting weight loss and keeping it off.

Eat These Foods, Lose the Weight

Weight loss is one of our top health concerns, so much so that we keep looking for good ways to lose weight, preferably a way that is easy, effective, and permanent. It turns out that, when properly chosen, certain foods cause weight loss, with no need for the deprivation and planning that most weight-loss regimens require.

In his next book, leading nutrition researcher and author Dr. Neal Barnard reveals three breakthroughs that are supported by research, revealing that certain foods:

1. can reduce the appetite

2. trap calories so they are flushed away and cannot be absorbed, and,

3. increase the body’s ability to burn calories for about three hours after each meal.

These breakthroughs make weight loss incredibly easy, without calorie counting or deprivation. This diet encourages people to eat, not to stop eating. Dr. Barnard also reveals that some of the foods we think are good for us can actually be harmful, like salmon, goat cheese, and coconut oil, all of which pass easily into body fat...and often overstay their welcome.

To make it easy, Dr. Barnard will include a simple to follow meal plan that includes delicious, and even indulgent recipes which include foods we have often been told to avoid, like potatoes and pasta, so you can eat real food, and still lose real weight.

Great book

Loved this book. I have read many others about plant based eating but love how this one hones in on the weight loss part of it and the science behind it.

Food Choices Matter

Such an interesting take on dieting. Food choices matter so why not choose foods that help with weight loss more so than other foods do. This goes beyond the basic dieting principles of eat less sugar, carbs & red meat. Certain foods promote weight loss. There is more detail beyond eat this, not that. The science behind the why is briefly explained. I will listen to this book again and again. A lot of helpful information!

you don't have to be perfect

When you watch a lot of online influencers it looks both easy and impossible to eat right! They grow their own gardens and stay at home while their spouse works and of course has a fabulous high paying job so they never have to worry about money. They make every single thing they eat from scratch, and of course have time to prep a weeks worth of food to go into their $20,000.00 fridge freezer with of course all the right clear glass storage containers arranged like someone came in and did it porfessionally for them.
This is not my life! I scrabble for some kind of breakfast and race to work late, eat a salad and possibly a baked potato for lunch and then after work race home to take my daughter to work as we only have one car. then go do the grocery shopping or maybe try to catch up the laundry and dishes from whenever because I was too tired to do them immediately. How would I make everything from scratch? I rent an apartment, the fridge I have is provided by my landlord, and it sure isn't the size "THEY" have.
Imagine my surprise when Dr. Barnard says we can have CEREAL!! you mean I don't have to grow my own wheat, mill it, and make it into cereal before I can have it?!?!?
This plan sounds both doable and fun, and I can hardlly wait to see my results!
