About this listen

Are You Hyperconnected... and Disconnected? The frenetic pace of modern life distracts us from a painful truth: we are disconnected. Disconnected from our DNA recipe, forged through the selection pressure of human evolution, to enjoy health, happiness, and peace of mind. Horns, office chatter, and whirring machines batter our ears with incessant noise. Artificial light and digital stimulation overstress our nervous systems day and night. Traffic jams, long lines, interruptions, distractions, and big egos pervade daily life in such a manner that we don't even realize the piece - or rather the peace - that's gone missing.

In The Primal Connection, Mark Sisson, the leading voice in the Evolutionary Health movement, and best-selling author of The Primal Blueprint, presents innovative, step-by-step guidelines to reconnect you with the hard-wiring of the human brain, trigger the release of feel-good hormones, and promote optimal gene expression. The Primal Connection is about setting your own daily pace, redefining your core values, and making time for play, for thrilling adventures, for quiet reflection, for friends and family, and for optimal rest and rejuvenation - while still enjoying the comfort and convenience of modern life!

Hard to listen to

I've never had a negative reaction to a narrator until this audiobook. I almost quit after the first chapter but I wanted to hear the content so bad that I pushed through. I'm glad I did because it's a really good book! I just wish it was easier to listen to.

Great info, bad narrator

The information presented is absolutely wonderful--very thorough, detailed, and scientifically backed. The narrator, however, was atrocious. He chortles his way through a preschool-style reading of the book with several mispronunciations, and some very awkward syntactic breaks.

Good book, bad reader

Almost returned it because of the narrator. But I forced myself through it and am happy to get the info.

Mispronunciations in every other paragraph

This recording is painful to listen to. I’d like to listen again to the ideas but I dont think I can. Schlepmo sounds like a middle schooler who has been handed a scientific text for the first time, nor an audiobook narrator who had time to look things up and get a critique. Sisson should be embarrassed that this is representing his brand.

bad narration maligns a good book

Would you try another book from Mark Sisson and/or Stephen Schlepmo?

Not if S. Schlepmo is reading. His performance is so bad that it undermines my confidence in the material.

What did you like best about this story?

Good practical information that is relatively easy to adopt.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Schlepmo’s performances?

No, he is way below the standard that I expect based on previous audio books. He fails on every level.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

N/A

The poor pronunciation was distracting

Would you consider the audio edition of The Primal Connection to be better than the print version?

No. The narration was very amateurish and the pronunciation of some words was so off that it took me a minute to figure out what he was saying.

for example: ennui. Pronounced EN-ooo-EE instead of the correct ON-wee.

Any word over two syllables was subject to emphasis in odd places or just got mangled. hiatus = HE-ate-us? Really?

I found it very distracting and annoying. The narrator's voice is pleasant enough but he sounded like someone in remedial English reading aloud to the class. If you can tolerate that, great!

How could the performance have been better?

PLEASE, for goodness sake, don't just GUESS how to pronounce things! Ugh.

Any additional comments?

The content and information were good but I'll probably wind up reading it instead.

Astounding to say the least

I've followed Mark for close to a decade now and thought I knew a lot about primal living. After listening to this book, I could feel the excitement well up from envisioning myself doing what Mark suggests - living life closer to our genetic calling.
This was a refreshing look at what had become dull monotony of adulthood and has provided me a door wide open to possibility.
I love this man's work!

The primal connection l

Great content but did not like me narrator as he sounded gay and spoke too fast.

Great content ruined by intolerable narration

Great content ruined by intolerable narration. I can usually get past this, but not in this case. This book deserves better.
