Publisher's summary

Primal Endurance shakes up the status quo and challenges the overly stressful, ineffective conventional approach to endurance training. While marathons and triathlons are wildly popular and bring much gratification and camaraderie to the participants, the majority of athletes are too slow, continually tired, and carry too much body fat respective to the time they devote to training. The prevailing "chronic cardio" approach promotes carbohydrate dependency, overly stressful lifestyle patterns, and ultimately burnout.

Mark Sisson, author of the 2009 best seller, The Primal Blueprint, and de-facto leader of the primal/paleo lifestyle movement, expertly applies primal lifestyle principles to the unique challenge of endurance training and racing. Unlike the many instant and self-anointed experts who have descended upon the endurance scene in recent years, Sisson and his co-author/business partner, Brad Kearns, boast a rich history in endurance sports. Sisson has a 2:18 marathon and fourth-place Hawaii Ironman finish to his credit, has spearheaded triathlon's global anti-doping program for the International Triathlon Union, and has coached/advised leading professional athletes, including Olympic triathlon gold and silver medalist Simon Whitfield and Tour de France cyclist Dave Zabriskie. Under Sisson's guidance, Kearns won multiple national championships in duathlon and triathlon, and rose to a number-three world triathlon ranking in 1991.

Primal Endurance applies an all-encompassing approach to endurance training that includes primal-aligned eating to escape carbohydrate dependency and enhance fat metabolism, building an aerobic base with comfortably paced workouts, strategically introducing high-intensity strength and sprint workouts, emphasizing rest, recovery, and an annual periodization, and finally cultivating an intuitive approach to training instead of the usual robotic approach of fixed weekly workout schedules.

Good information but drags on and on and on

Would you consider the audio edition of Primal Endurance to be better than the print version?

NO...I believe the print would bet better.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Anything not so draining.

What didn’t you like about Brad Kearns’s performance?

Nice voice but after the constant repeats became annoying.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The information regarding running and heart rate was very informative.

Any additional comments?

I am a tell me once and I get it type of person. This book was too wordy and everything was repeated to such a level I felt I caught myself rolling my eyes. "Not again...."

Brad brings this book to life!

What made the experience of listening to Primal Endurance the most enjoyable?

Brad and Mark really have written / produced an amazing book that will help you with endurance as well as your overall heath - forever - if you following their many, many years of experiance and research. Brad's reading is amazing..! It's more like a conversation. It's almost like he's your personal endurance coach..!!

What did you like best about this story?

The sidebars and additional comments from Brad & Mark...

Have you listened to any of Brad Kearns’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. But he's the best reader I've listened to for a non-fiction book, by far...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I've listened to it twice and there's SO much great information in it I'm sure I'll listen to it again and again.

You may be compelled to start a new course

The contents of this book make the most sense to me as an endurance athlete than any other collective of knowledge when it comes to fitness/nutrition/lifestyle. I bought the hard copy as soon as I finished to start creating a plan for myself. Brad's narration was done very well. Although he could get corny at times it was clear that he knows his stuff and didn't need to strictly read out of the book.

Not just a book

I really both loved and hated the book. I hated ot because i could not stop of listening to it ! It took me more than 16 hours to finish it since English is not my native language. This book is an MSc in sports science! Congratulations to everyone and special thanks to the narration !

No PDF's

As it was already mentioned PDFs should be attached for the key information provided about aerobic and anaerobic leveling.
Overall it was a great book allowing any athlete to reset their base and determine where they should concentrate when working out for optimal fat burning results.

Unlike all other athletic handbooks it doesn't push you into reaching a goal of one or multiple marathons or over exertive exercise routines.
Be active, eat right, sleep well and not in that order.
