About this listen

Perfect for fans of Raven Kennedy and Thea Guanzon, Rebecca Robinson’s thrilling romantasy debut combines high-stakes political intrigue and a steamy, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance.

All her life, Vaasa Kozár has been sharpened into a blade.

After losing her mother—her only remaining parent—to a mysterious dark magic that has since awakened within her, Vaasa is certain death looms. So is her merciless brother, who aims to eliminate Vaasa as a threat to his crown. In one last political scheme, he marries her off to Reid of Mireh, a ruthless foreign ruler, in hopes that he can use her death as a rallying cry to finally invade Reid’s nation. All Vaasa has to do is die.

But she is desperate to live. Vaasa enters her new marriage with every intent to escape it, wielding the hard-won political prowess and combat abilities her late father instilled in her. But to her surprise, Reid offers her a deal: help him win the votes to rise in power, and she can walk free. In exchange, he will share his knowledge about the dark magic running through her veins—and help keep it at bay.

This proposal may be too good to refuse, yet Vaasa and Reid’s undeniable attraction threatens to break the rules of their arrangement. As her brother’s lethal machinations take form, everything is at stake: Vaasa must learn to trust her new husband, but how can she, especially when their perfect political marriage begins to feel like the real thing?

That ending!

Pleasantly surprised, couldn’t put the book down. Really enjoyed the action packed and fast pace of this story, and the characters were very relatable…politics and twist and turns through out but that ending! Can’t wait for book 2.

Perfect romantasy

a romantacy where the female main character is bad**s loved her personality. Loved the slow burn romance and the banter. The plot twists had me shook. The mmc was perfect in my opinion. I can’t wait for book 2!! Only thing I didn’t love was the voice for Reid it sounded like a old man and was hard to get used to

Sucker for a contract marriage

What can I say I’m a sucker for a contract marriage. I really enjoy the story and the plot. I loved the entire concept. I am also a huge fan of the narrator. It was predictable as far as fantasy stories go but enjoyable. My only critique was the pacing. I liked that it was faster paced and not as drawn out as some stories, however with that it felt like some of the story was missing. Like we could have been given a little more background is some areas. Still, I can’t wait for book two

Fun listen overall!

While I really enjoyed this book overall, it must admit that it took a while to get there. The beginning was fantastic! And then there was a whole lot of politics and boring stuff. And then it picked back up again. I felt like I was always on the verge of getting answers, and it kept me intrigued enough to keep reading. That ending, though, whew! I'm definitely looking forward to book 2! Reid is coming for vengeance, and it is going to be incredible!

This debut Duology is Everything!

This debut book is filled with a bit of everything and done so well! You have slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, arranged marriage/marriage of convenience, found family, political intrigue, world building, and magic. Plus, the narrator is the perfect voice for this book. Every tone, accent, inflection, and emotion is heard and felt when you listen and read the book simultaneously. Bravo to Rebecca Robinson on her first book, and I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the second book!

I really wanted to love it

The story kept me going. But after it was done I just could not love it. Maybe because it was building a world and I hope the next one really sucks me in.

Amazing!

I just finished this audiobook and I keep going back to the thought, “WHY haven’t I heard anybody talking about this book!?!?”. It’s so good - strong characters, world building, capturing story, and ridiculously suspenseful ending. I can’t wait for the next book, which I can’t find a release date. I hope it’s very soon!
