About this listen

The New York Times bestselling novel soon to be a major motion picture starring Nicole Kidman, for fans of The Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient.

"I gobbled it down in one sitting."–Anne Lamott, People

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can’t be made, and promises that won’t be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the listener from minute one and does not let go.

Critic reviews

"It’s this summer’s Gone Girl–I gobbled it down in one sitting, and because of the wonderful writing, I did not feel one speck guilty.”–Anne Lamott, People Magazine

"A. S. A. Harrison knocks it out of the park with her first novel, The Silent Wife. With a spare, elegant, and deft hand, she paints two dueling psychological portraits of longtime live-in lovers who become putative killer and hapless victim in a tale that no one is likely to forget anytime soon. I couldn't put this book down."—Elizabeth George, New York Times bestselling author of A Banquet of Consequences

"What a deliciously wicked pleasure The Silent Wife was to read. I love books where I can't guess the outcome, although I was rooting for Jodi all the way. A very clever, very funny comedy of manners spliced with a domestic thriller."—Kate Atkinson, New York Times bestselling author of Life After Life

Not necessarily for those who want twist after twist or a wild ride, but the writing and performances are good and I thought the story was well-written and interesting.

Slow, meditative burn

It was ok. Towards the end it got a bit boring and I tuned out. So really don’t know what happens. The story overall was a 3.

Meh

Maybe this could be boring for some, but I love all of the psychology, clever writing and storyline. Saskia is just my very favorite!!!

Love it

Difficult to describe! I did learn a great deal of psychology as was interwoven all throughout this crazy story though my favorite out of all is the character analysis! This is first and foremost the tale of a relationship from beginning to end - really a deep dive on all its ugliness and beauty in the minutes detail and beautifully written!!

Unputdownable!!

The narration was on par with the writing. Not off putting but not intriguing either. I’ve listened to worse but I’m happy to finally be done.

A solid OK

I will preface that I usually listen to at least 5 books a week. So I really wanted “next” audio to be captivating. As a result I’m continually multitasking. This is a book/audio that you give yourself permission to sit back, relax and follow that twisted road. So many nuances, great dark humor, character development was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Narration was excellent. Capturing the various character’s emotions in their own unique voice was incredible!!

Outstanding!!

This great story turned into something clichè I didn’t expect or want. Such great setup wasted.

Missed Opportunity

Have you ever listened to a book and felt like you missed several chapters?

I can’t tell you how many time I rewinded this trying to figure out what I must have missed. Very choppy and hard to follow.

And then the ending is awful. I kept waiting for a big climax, it never really claimed. Everything was just blah

That was it?
