On the run with only her voice to defend herself and her friends.
After the events which caused Cadence to lose consciousness within Uniworld Online, she was now being monitored by the company in charge of the game - Unitech. This surveillance meant that the fledgling Song Maiden had to watch what abilities she used within the game, otherwise she might attract the wrong kind of attention and be accused of cheating or hacking.
Despite these setbacks, Cadence is joined once again by her friends Brendare and Wengla, as well as Mera - the grateful young woman the trio had narrowly saved from being sacrificed by Corrupted Druids. With new gear and a renewed drive to find and punish the players who had killed Cadence, they journeyed onward, getting stronger and picking up allies along the way.
Danger is just around the corner, however, as they learn that Brendare and the “mysterious Bard” are being hunted by guilds desiring to know the secret behind their winning dungeon run. When Cadence and her party are forced to quickly make their way toward Lightforge - the Human capital city - they are presented with a whole new challenge: crafting.
With everything going on within the game, Cadence is also ecstatic because her body in the real world is healing faster than her doctor had expected. In addition to her limbs recovering from the abuse they suffered at the hands of her attackers, something else is starting to heal which will change her life forever...
Note: contains LitRPG elements such as character progression, quests, skills, stats, and stat sheets. No harems and sparse foul language.

Jonathan Brooks has masterfully crafted an immersive and captivating sequel in "The Song Mistress: A LitRPG Journey," narrated with brilliance by Anneliese Rennie. This installment, Book 2 of the Uniworld Online series, continues to unravel the mysteries of the game while introducing fresh challenges and unforeseen developments for our resolute protagonist, Cadence.
Cadence's journey takes an intriguing twist, offering both unexpected complexities and a clear narrative path. The Uniworld Online universe begins to reveal its enigmatic nature, with Cadence being the keen observer who notices its subtleties. What's striking is how her friends, too, start to perceive the world on a deeper level, even if they can't quite put their fingers on what's changed. Hints of a grander story surrounding Cadence and her companions begin to emerge, leaving readers hungry for answers and eager for what lies ahead.
Cadence. WTH! I just got that. Her name is cadence . . .
While this volume leaves us with more questions than answers, it excels in steering the narrative towards its ultimate destination. It embraces the typical traits of a middle installment – building upon the previous parts, yet leaving much unresolved – but does so with a rare level of engagement and enjoyment. Jonathan Brooks has a knack for keeping readers fully engrossed in the story, even as the plot thickens.
One minor quibble to note is Anneliese Rennie's effortlessly breathes life into Jonathan Brooks' tale, displaying a remarkable vocal range that makes character identification a breeze. My issue is she makes this look to dang easy. She's making the other narrators look bad. I love her work.
At its core, "The Song Mistress" continues to delve into the story of a mute young lady, Cadence, who uses the game world as a means of coping with her real-world hospitalization, a theme established in Book 1. Within the game, Cadence's unique choices have unlocked characters, abilities, and quests that are reshaping the game world itself. However, beneath the surface, a web of intrigue is being woven, and the consequences of her actions are far-reaching.
The Uniworld saga unfolds with Cadence and her loyal friends, now under the watchful eye of the corporation, Unitech. This surveillance complicates Cadence's decision to showcase her exceptional abilities within the game, as the AI proves to have more control than anyone anticipated. Cadence's resourceful problem-solving skills are nothing short of astonishing, often leading her into exhilaratingly perilous situations. The ongoing interplay between the real world and the game world adds a layer of depth that enhances the overall entertainment value.
Brooks expertly weaves together intricate character development, an expansive skill tree, crunchy stats, exhilarating battles, and a cast of villains you can't help but despise. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when Cadence and her companions become embroiled in a series of quests involving fairies, the forest, and peculiar phenomena. Furthermore, powerful guilds and shadowy forces from outside the game collaborate to pose a formidable threat to Cadence and her friends.
Anneliese Rennie's narration truly elevates the audiobook experience to cinematic heights. Her vivid storytelling transports listeners into the heart of the Uniworld Online universe. The ups and downs, the twists and turns, are all brought to life with remarkable clarity, making it feel like an immersive movie experience. And that ending! Prepare to be perched on the edge of your seat, eagerly anticipating Book 3.
"The Song Mistress: A LitRPG Journey" is a mesmerizing continuation of Cadence's adventures in Uniworld Online. With a stellar narrator-author duo in Anneliese Rennie and Jonathan Brooks, this audiobook delivers an enthralling story that engages the senses and leaves listeners eagerly awaiting the next installment. If you're a fan of fantasy and LitRPG, this series is an absolute must-listen. I, for one, will eagerly await the next chapter in Cadence's extraordinary journey.
