Publisher's summary

Kate Bateman's To Catch an Earl continues her historical Regency Romance Bow Street Bachelors series.

Working undercover for London’s first official police force, the Bow Street Bachelors have an obligation to serve the city’s best interests - even while they’re falling for the city’s most alluring women....

She knows how to steal a kiss.

Alex Harland, Earl of Melton and dedicated rake, never pictured himself as an agent of inquiry. But the thrill of investigation is a challenge he now embraces. When he’s asked to pursue the Nightjar, a notorious thief who is reclaiming France’s crown jewels, the case throws him into the path of the beautiful and equally elusive Emmy Danvers, reminding him of the only puzzle he’s never solved: the identity of the mysterious woman who once stole a kiss from him - and left him wanting so much more....

Will he surrender his heart?

The daughter of a thief, Emmy learned long ago how to keep her secrets safeguarded - and, as the notorious Nightjar, her love for Alex Harland is one of them. With the determined earl hot on her trail - and making her hot under the collar - Emmy has no choice but to keep her distance. But when a moment’s danger threatens Emmy’s life as well as her name, will Alex finally discover that he’s followed every clue...to true love?

Riveting

The story is really exciting. The only thing I have a problem with is its unnecessarily long. The story could be told in a shorter period. The heroine was ridiculous at the end.

Rich, strong characters

This was a great listen. Kate Bateman created an interesting story that pulled me in from the beginning and kept me til the end. And she was masterful in her character development. The heroine of the story is just that...the heroine. She has integrity, honesty and honor. And she's intrepid. I loved the instant attraction, repartee and sizzling chemistry between Alex Harland, Earl of Melton and beautiful and elusive Emmy Danvers, daughter of notorious thief, Nightja. This book is definitely a favorite that I'll return to again and again. As a narrator Beverly Crick is sometimes iffy, but she did a wonderful job on this book.

Eh <shrug>

Too farfetched especially the ending. Also it was almost romantic but not quite... I'm not a fan of men making excuses for their behavior because the passion was too strong they couldn't help being brutes. Without the romance it's just the same old thing : Inexperienced virgin reaches heights of ecstasy their 1st time was the man takes her hard and fast with his record breaking humongous member ... 🙄 God what a bore!

Good, but…

I started this audiobook soon after I finished the 1st… I should have waited- there was just too many similarities. Still a good story, a little reminiscent of “To Catch a Thief”, steamy scenes are good, but seriously too much drawn out internalizing of things that should have been shown in interaction and dialogue. I thought about starting a new book many times, though I haven’t, I Still haven’t finished. Stopped and looked at reviews of 3rd book, and read another review very similar. I have one hour left and curious if I’m going to agree with the reviews that the heroine does something stupid. Liked the first installment a lot, smart and more real characters, not a lot of miscommunication and overthinking. This one… ok.
