About this listen

Jim Hawkins, a young cabin boy battles the pirate Long John Silver for a buried treasure. One of the most frequently dramatized novels of all time. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen carrying parrots on their shoulders.

That narration style...

That narration style... is so bizarre... the way that sentences, phrases... and clauses... are broken in preposterous.... ... ways.

Fantastic Listen

The story is a classic and the narrator does a great job of blending his voice and style to the spirit of the tale. I have listened to this multipletomes.

You get what you pay for

I had to read this book for a class, and I figured I'd splurge and buy the audio book since it was so cheap. While this version gets the job done, it has to be listened to sped up because of the slowness and monotone of the narrator. He was also inconsistent in his reading speed. He does do really great pirate voices though, so that's a plus.

Okay

The narrators voice is kinda irritating and the story is very long but it’s okay.

Stilted narration

Any additional comments?

I'm sad to say that I was unable to listen to this audiobook. The story is a classic, so there are no surprises there.

My problem is with the narration. The narrator has a wonderful voice, and in dialog passages his character voices are good, but most of the time his reading is painfully stilted. Instead of smoothly delivered exposition, the delivery stutters and jerks, with odd pauses everywhere.

I'll have to try again, find another version with better narration.

The narrator had unique voices for the characters, which was really entertaining, but occasionally difficult to understand when I was multitasking while listening. Otherwise, it was a great audiobook.

I couldn't have asked for a better rendition of one of my favorite stories. I will have no problem listening to this again and again.

Treasure Island

I have never been lucky to be able to read this classic book. I would be willing to say that this story wouldn’t have been different from the past. The story was about the time when there was pirates. The people who were not rich,so poor that they were willing to be,what they were just very poor. Than comes some beggars looking for people who can help them.
What caught in the time of what they were there pirates and taking what they could find. Talk of treasure hunting for some who were pirates and they needed to find the map for the treasure-map, that was hidden? Instead someone did find the map! What they needed now as the find a crew to sail the ship, to Treasure Island. Map in the hands and the story to find the treasure that was there to be found!

Not Crazy About The Performance

Treasure Island is one of my favorite books. I just felt that the narrator was reading much too slowly. I rarely do this but I played it at 1.5 speed. But then it became difficult to read every word, especially because he reads so softly.
