About this listen

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

Triggers confronts head on the challenges of behavior and change, looking at the external factors (or "triggers") - both negative and positive - that affect our behaviors, our awareness of when we need to change, our willingness (or otherwise) to do so, and our ability to see the change through. Drawing on his unparalleled experience as an international executive educator and coach, Marshall Goldsmith invites us to understand how our own beliefs and the environments in which we operate can trigger negative behaviors or a resistance to the need to change. But he also offers up some simple, practical advice to help us navigate the negative and make the most of the triggers that will help us to sustain positive change.

Great inspiration!

Provides insights on lots of wonderful ways to identify and address the triggers that influence our behavior. Some technical mixing issues did hurt the overall experience.

Very helpful, with very applicable suggestions.

Most Pyschology self help books turn me off, with their arrogant tone, but this author was so down to earth and "approachable" that I couldn't help but embrace his suggestions.

Good techniques on how to create change

The book starts by setting the background for triggers and how they work. It spends some time on this, but eventually gets to how you can use these to make changes in your life, namely by making use of triggers.

I think the daily questions is an excellent way to create changes in your life. I have used this myself and this has worked very well for me. You can draw a list of daily questions you ask yourself, and then review them daily, and this will remind or trigger you to remember about the changes you want to make. If you find yourself making decisions on how to change your life but keep forgetting, you can turn these decisions into daily questions. I also find that questions work better than reminders, because questions are more engaging.

The book also discussed many other topics and gave hints which I found interesting and useful.

I underestimated this book

I randomly came across this title and it's cover intrigued me. thinking I had heard everything it might have to offer I underestimated it but decided to listen anyways in hopes I could recommend it to someone just starting the path of creating their own life. I'm humbled to say the least. this author exposed me to the other half of the equation that I hadn't even thought about... checking in with yourself at night to measure your level of motivation to reach goals you set for the day. after developing an amazing morning routine and doing well with it, I now have developed an evening routine based on this book to rate myself on how I did that day. it has already raised my awareness to the fact that I have listed some goals in my morning routine that I'm not even trying to reach. What a great way to wrap up the day by checking in with your self and asking "did I do my best to ...(reach my goals today?, avoid sugar today?, challenge myself mentally/physically today?, build and maintain deep and meaningful relationships today?, etc...)"

Life changing

I could write a novel about how this book has changed my life but I'm too busy changing my life and becoming the person I never knew I could be. Thank you Marshall Goldsmith. I'm forever in your debt.

Very valuable

I hesitated on this book for a while. That was a mistake. There is a well developed method for change and self awareness. It's clearly not going to be easy to implement, and that's how I know it will be effective.
