About this listen
For two months, Jamie Garland had fallen in love... with a lie. Cade Santerre was every woman's fantasy - until the mask came off in a scandal that left Jamie shattered.
Cade had pretended to be someone he wasn't. Worse, he'd used her in his elaborate attempt to catch a man he believed was a crook and a swindler. Though Cade's suspect had escaped, Cade was still around - raw, masculine, overwhelming. He had some unfinished business with the man who had conned his innocent sister, and he needed Jamie's help. But Jamie had some unfinished business, as well: to find out if the man she'd fallen in love with really existed.

Seven months ago, Pallas Llewellyn, Talia March, and Amelia Rivers were strangers, until their fateful stay at the Lucent Springs Hotel. An earthquake and a fire partially destroyed the hotel, but the women have no memory of their time there. Now close friends, the three women co-host a podcast called the Lost Night Files, where they investigate cold cases and hope to connect with others who may have had a similar experience to theirs—an experience that has somehow enhanced the psychic abilities already present in each woman.

Hannah Harte remembers the long-ago night on the beach that revealed Rafe as more than just "that disreputable Madison boy." And Rafe remembers the heroic gesture that proved Hannah's fierce spirit was stronger than any feud—and saved him from near-certain imprisonment. Now—reunited by a surprising inheritance after years of living their separate lives—Rafe and Hannah return to Eclipse Bay, and the hostilities that still divide, and bind, their families. And they are discovering something that is at once delightful and deeply disturbing.

Naive, obstinate, petulant, immature women masking it as ‘strength’ at the very risk of their own safety and life in some attempt at ‘self preservation’ seriously disappoint me. It’s possible to display inner strength without being impetuous.

Predictable
Female character was weak. Male character bordered on abusive with his possessiveness. I love JAK, but didn’t like this book at all.

I’m a huge JAK fan, but....
I struggled through the first half of the book, but had to stop. There wasn’t much of a storyline, aside from Jamie’s continuous, annoying, refusal to believe Cade didn’t betray her. I got so tired of it, I couldn’t listen to the rest. Additionally, the narrator did some of Cade’s voice okay, but the personal intimate conversations were stilted, a little sleazy, and actually made me cringe. I even checked to make sure I was reading JAK!
I’m going back to Smoke in Mirrors, Deep Waters, Absolutely, Positively, Family Man, etc. Those are prime JAK!
