About this listen

Mindy McKnight, YouTube's favorite mom, shares the tools parents need to keep kids safe in their online lives - and shows how to create stronger family relationships as they do.

A cross between Jen Hatmaker and Rosalind Wiseman, Viral Parenting is a guide to raising responsible, safe, and communicative kids in the digital world. Mindy shares practical tools for having honest conversations with kids of all ages about privacy, bullying, respectfulness, and family time while emphasizing the importance of trust and open communication. These strategies are timeless - whether applied to texting, snapping, Facebooking, kiking, or whatever social media platforms await us in the future, this book is ultimately about teaching children about personal responsibility and safety.

Mindy shares practical tools for creating family rules for kids of all ages about privacy, bullying, respectfulness, and family time, while emphasizing the importance of trust and open communication. Using family contracts, guided conversations, device checks, and respectful but firm oversight, the McKnights have raised a close knit family and navigated the complexity of being worldwide internet celebrities with grace. McKnight will show any parent of any child or teen how that's done - setting nonnegotiable guidelines and offering a savvy perspective toward privacy that audiences have been begging for.

So many great insights

I loved most of the ideas I got from this book. I love hearing other parenting styles! I wished there were more "how to set this up" as far as social media accounts go. This makes it safer and this is how you do it. It is definitely worth the read!

Useful information. Switched to Kindle.

Parents will value this information. However, we switched to Kindle to read the book. The performance is simply the least effective among the hundreds of audio books to which I’ve ever listened. They should have hired a professional to read the book for us.

Great advice for parents!

I'm an IT manager, so I know a lot about technology. This book has exactly the advice I would and DO give to parents trying to navigate the digital world with their kids!

Plus the author and her family are the ones reading the book, which makes the tone and inflection perfect! Definitely recommend!

It’s ok.

Liked the concept of this book and they definitely hit on some great points. The contract is really good, but note they do not mention a link to it so you just have the audio version. (Some other audio books I’ve listened to include a link to templates/plans and things on their website, so I was hoping this would too.)
The delivery is terrible. Kids and husband are fine but the main author does not have a voice for narrating. It’s so monotone and robotic which is a bit off-putting (strange since she’s a you tuber, and considering she’s reading her own writing).
Furthermore, beware that a good chunk of the book is on parenting in general. Some good points and reminders, just was expecting the majority of it to be more on the digital stuff. It is not. The digital stuff is covered in the first few chapters.
