Publisher's summary

Get it on…again! The Strange Company is back and on the defensive.

A massive invasion of a major Monarch world gets underway and the weird warrant officers of Voodoo Platoon move into their roles as combat multipliers at the front lines of an incredible no-holds-barred brawl for battlefield domination. Facing legions of Ultramarines, a weaponized population, and re-engineered combat veterans augmented by cybernetics, the stone-cold killers and ready-to-rumble rogues of Strange, fighting alongside a newly christened mech combat team, must hold a gateway landing zone against overwhelming odds.

But the Ultras aren’t the premier elite fighting unit of the crumbling Monarch Empire for nothing. Defeat isn't even on the table for this military death cult of galactic warriors the Strange faces across a charred and dangerous battlefield.

To the legendary Ultramarines, this is the last battle; the final conflict, and nothing less than their honor and a place in history are at stake. To survive, Reaper, Dog, and Voodoo Platoons will have to play every dirty trick in the book of war in a desperate, high-cycle, ride-the-lightning defense of a bad LZ where both sides know what they do here will echo into eternity.

The tragedy of the Strange Company continues on LZ Heartbreak. Just because it’s a bad idea, doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

Better than the first book

Nick Cole you have outdone yourself with this one!
While I did struggle with the first half of the first book this book kept my attention from start to finish! And once the fighting starts it doesn't stop. Every engagement I was on edge because you just didn't know who was gonna survive and who wasn’t. And Nick definitely delivers on the title Voodoo Warfare! Can't wait for the final installment of the tragedy of Strange Company!

Great 2nd Book!

At first the story telling seemed repetitive and it was repetitive because it was meant to be repetitive. As a listener I was able to really get into the head of O’Ryan and try to grasp what goes through a combat leader and fighter’s mind. All that while a compelling scifi battle takes place with more moving pieces than a bag full of cats. Looking forward to book 3.

Well written on a few levels

I hope there is another book in the series soon. (5 more words required one more)

Much better than the 1st

There are a few parts that require the speed to be bumped up to 1.7 4 1.5 on the reading of the story. The narrator is super slow. But thank you for packing so much of the story in one book high greatly appreciate That.

Damned paste eater

First and foremost, love it. Amazing series, can't wait for 3. I think Cole has a coffee addiction he lives out through his characters, but damn it it's good nonetheless. What has pissed me off, besides a part hither or tither that seemed a tad rushed, was the sacrifice a character made. Not because it wasn't well written, or done cheesy or anything like that. It was because I actually teared up. I teared up TWICE through this book, once with the barbecue, once with the kids. Amazing, well written, and I NEEDED to finish it.

“We have to be honest about these things.”

Another solid 8/10 journal style war story. Science-fiction with doses of camaraderie, in-the-thick-of-it combat and the signature coffee breaks.

Love This Series!

Light Infantry in a future setting but with a good take on tech of the future….and yet never strays from the basic principle that in the end…wars are won by guys on the ground with a rifle and guts.

O’Ryan as the hard bitten Merc sergeant who has seen it all, doesn’t want to believe in anything…yet does. The “brothers of Strange Company” are a wild lot but their “stories” are fascinating and in the end….they truly are “strangers to the universe but brothers to the end!”

“We have to be honest about these things” O’Ryan always says….so…being honest, I absolutely can’t wait for the next book in this series. HOT SOUP!…..get it on Strange!

The narration is fantastic! Christopher Ryan Grant does a superb job!
