About this listen

The gods walk again....

When Marine Corps pilot Jacob Merely crashes during a routine mission off the coast of Cyprus, he was sure it was game over.

After surviving the crash and pulling himself onto the sandy shores of a long-abandoned island, however, Jacob unwittingly stumbles headfirst into the ancient ruins of a dead city. Unfortunately, he also stumbles into an age-old battle between good and evil - and he is now its newest recruit.

The island once belonged to the Amazons, daughters of Ares, the God of War, and stood as the final bastion between the human world and the monstrosities of the Great Below. But Jacob’s arrival has awakened the old gods and disturbed the seal holding the ravaging darkness at bay.

Now, with the help of a sacred gem containing Ares’ power, Jacob must recreate the Amazonian defenders of humanity and fortify the island stronghold. And if he fails, Hades will unleash his army of the damned and the world of men will fall, giving rise to an age of walking nightmares.

"You had me at mythology. You sold me at the crafting, game mechanics, great characters, and serious action. From start to finish, War God's Mantle delivers. Do not miss this book!" (Harmon Cooper, author of Fantasy Online and The Feedback Loop series)

The story is neat and the women are pretty badass and a bit crazy at times but all of them are interesting and have issues that are well adressed. the narrator does a pretty good job the female voices could use a bit softer touch but still very good.

Pretty fun book

I do not understand. the lit rpg elements are well thought-out well constructed the levelling is Timely and smart. why the hell does it have to be some kind of sexual romp. true it adds some meat to what is a short story but it is Rancid boring and useless meat. the endless masculine Pursuit of sex is very very very old.

Could be so much more

Enjoyed the book, little slow to take off, the main character is not what was expected from a Marine Aviator. Interesting take on the standard LITRPG type book.

This book surprised me, it felt similar to The Legendary Builder Series that I previously read and enjoyed but without tons of sex. It was fun to see a different take on a guy surrounded by beautiful women. The real life video game idea was executed very well. Loved it!

Very balanced relationships.

I rarely quit in the middle - much less in the first quarter - I hate wasting money - but I just got too impatient with this book. There is talent in these writers, and Armen Taylor did a creditable job with the voice of the protagonist (though he is a bit fond of his low notes) - but I just couldn't put up with the facile pace with which the story was set up, and the unsubtle comic-book dialogue between Ares and his minion. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. It all had the feel of an RPG, cardboard characters rushing plot to get to the action sequences so we could blow stuff up. Really not what I came for.

I am sure there is a market for writing like this. But I think it wants to be interactive with swords and gatling guns. I am back to the website for something more thoughtful, and deeper than an LCD screen.

Very happy to have added this to my collection. Loved the variety of characters and the narration style. Certainly looking forward to adding the next book to the set.

A Great LitRPG for the collection

Great voice acting, although I still prefer audiobooks where a female voice actor handles the female roles.

Enjoyable story. I laughed out loud several times. I do appreciate that the PC, despite being a marine, makes mistakes and is altogether human.

Enjoyable

As Jacob tries aracnoswine for first time in its bacon form you will see just how amazing this series is and let's not to get the mountain dew fountain or the literal army of stunning amazonian warriors. Cannot wait to see what happens next!

Nice edition to the genre
